A friend asked me to make him a selfbow so I began work on a piece of hickory. As I worked I continued to recall the compelling threats of the Southern women that I grew up around.
"Boy, you'd better behave or I'll send you to get a hickory."
Thus the name, "The Whipping Stick."
"Ma, I have been behaving, but I did indeed pick a hickory."
This bow is a pyramid style bow with Diamondback Rattlesnake skins. The tips are Burmese Red Wood overlay. It's 66" long nock to nock measuring 1 1/2" wide at the fades and ending at 1/2" at the tips. It draws 52# at 28".

Very nice looking bow especially like the tip overlays.Ron

Nice looking bow and a very nice gesture.
Looks like the top limb could bend a bit more midlimb, just my opinion though.
-
Very nice, I like the prfile- nice R/D. I'm with Dana, the top limb could be a little more limber, but it's an absolute beauty ;D!
-
That's a nice'un. Like that handle, too-looks comfy.

Very nice Ranger B. Great profile and nice combo with the skins and tips. I'm starting to really like R/D bows and they can definately be harder to tiller but it looks like you nailed it. I think it might be an optical illusion on the pic that some are seeing. I've found that by drawing a straight line from the tip to the handle on each limb helps to see how they compare in bend and profile. Looks fairly even to me. ;)
PS we'll be keeping you guys in the thoughts on your up coming deployment, Thanks again for your service to our country.

That is a fine looking weapon Jim! Like the tips and skins, is that the one you were working on in the rain the other day?

Thanks all.
Greg - I have been on leave so when I wasn't hunting I was working.
Cowboy - No that was an Osage stave I've been starting. Got the bow drawn out on it now and need to get it cut out.
I'm very pleased with this hickory bow.

Nice tips, the bow stuns me. Especially the deep red of the tips
