This is a bow I built for a SCA group to be raffled off to make money for their group. It is 71 1/2"n/n and 75" t/t and pulls 45#@28". 1 3/16" for the center 20" and tapering to 1/2" tips. Thin ringed osage with a little squiggle at the upper tip. The horn nocks are made from cow horn(Justin's I think) and the handle wrap is hemp cord. I still have to set the handle wrap in glue...and a "floppy" rest for comfort. I've shot about 50 or more arrows through her and plan to shoot at least 50 more before sending her off. She shoots quite well with a little hand shock but only holds very little set.

Nice Bow Pat......... nice and simple and deadly..thats all they need to be....... ;) One question though....what did that poor Tree do to you???? You got it all Eyebolted down so it cant go anywhere........... >:D I aint no Tree Hugger....but that looks like abuse to me......... ;D O:)

cloths line! ;D O:) ;)

I like it..!!! ;)

Nice Pat, taking a liking to the elbs myself lately. Steve
-
Very nice bow Pat and very generous of you also :)
Haven't tried an ELB yet but its on my to do list.
-
Thanks David and others.
Steve, I've done about 5 or 6 ELB style bows and they shoot the most accuratly of all my bows. I guess it's the length.
Thanks Dana, you need to try one.
Below are a few pics of the cow horn nocks. I seem to be getting better at making them. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. ;D

I am just not good at fitting the horn nocks right for some reason, My transition never comes out good. Yours look very good. Steve
-
Pat at least their on in the right direction eh ::) :P ;)
-
Nice work Pat.
-
I like it Pat.Nice clean lines, pretty arc,and I like the cow horn tips. Good work!!!. God Bless
-
Steve, the first few sets were terrible. I spent more time on them than I did the bows. ::) This set came out pretty good. I drilled out the center first with a reshaped spade bit then fitted them to a 1/2" dowel with a matching taper and shaped them so the transition area was pretty thin. Then installed them on the bow and added the thread wrap to make the transition a bit easier.
Thanks for reminding me Dana. ::) Since that bow I always at least double check. ;D I saw that bow last spring on the raffle table at the Hickory NC shoot. The horn (antler) nocks on it were still pointing back. ;)
Thanks, slr and Pete. Pat

Very nice, love the tips.
May I suggest and it's only a suggestion. Try using hot pure bees wax on the hemp wrap, soak it in real good.
It seems to set up really stiff and doesn't get sticky.
Again nice.

Very nice Pat. You could get another 3 or 4 inches of draw length with that length of bow
-
Very nice Pat. Love the tips!!

Marc, this bow is going to be shot by guys that may not be able to pull 45#@28". They requested 35# to 40# but I just couldn't take it down any more. ;) It draws very smoothly so they should be able to handle the extra 5#. I did tiller it out to just over 29" for safety sake though. ;)
Don. I like that idea. probably more appropriate too. Thanks.
Thanks, John. Pat
-
Your nocks sure made this bow. Not to mention the great tiller. Bookmarked, too :)
-
Awesome bow! You ot the touch. Jawge
-
Thanks George and Don. ;) Pat
-
Another dandy there Pat ;D. I think I could prolly shoot that a little better than the ERC you brought to the Classic :).
-
Nice'un, Pat. Aren't those nocks on backwards, though? :)
-
Not this time Steve.
Paul, this bow is about 50# lighter than the one I had at the Classic. ;) These long bows are quite accurate to shoot. I was shooting 4", 4 arrow groups at 15 yards. Pat

Very nice Pat! Horn nocks are a nice touch

Very nice Pat. You could get another 3 or 4 inches of draw length with that length of bow
Well someone could get a few more inches out of it, but Pat would need longer arms to do it. ;) ;D
Great looking bow Pat. Those tips are incredible. Perhaps I should send you the rest of the cow horn so I don't ruin it all. ::) Justin
-
beautiful bow Pat ,but how the heck do you shoot a bow that long out of a tree stand
-
Thanks Tracy. They are a nice touch but a pain in the arse!
Justin, I think it was the horn that made them come out so nice. ;) maybe you should just go ahead and send them on. I'd hate to be responsible for you messing them horns up. ;D
Marc, I can't pull this one to its intended full draw of 28". I'm lucky to hit 26"!
Robbs, tall trees! ;D This bow will be shot from the ground. It is going to a reenactment group...however, I have shot a 68" long bow from a treestand. You just have to be aware of your surroundings. Pat
-
Pat-That's one gorgeous bow! Makes me want to quit hunting orcs and start hunting for some osage!! ;D
-
That's a nice looking bow Pat! Great looking tiller and details.
Alan
-
Pat. kinda figured something like that, just joshing with ya.
-
Nice one!!! Never made an ELB but this one inspires me to give it a try. Beautiful bow.
-
Terrific bow Pat. You sure got those horn nocks down. And the tiller is spot on as usual.
-
Very nicely done Pat,love them tips.Great job he should like that a lot. :)
Pappy

Love it Pat. Great job on the tiller and nice tips. Love the way the one tip curves. That one truely is a "long" bow. I'm afraid I would need a ladder to shoot that. Not sure how this one slipped past me ::)
-
Pat , Thats a dandy .Phillip
-
It is L-O-N-G! :o That's for sure. ;) I wanted it as realistic as I could make it for the reenactment guys and I wanted to keep the squiggly end on it. ;D
-
I missed it too Pat. Nice job on those nocks and nice over all. Nice of you to do for the fund raisers. Kenneth
-
Thanks Kenneth. No one is buying so I might as well give them away. ;D Pat
