Title: some fresh chippin
Post by: Ryan_Gill_HuntPrimitive on November 18, 2008, 06:45:17 pm
Since i am pretty caught up on my hunting this year, i took some time to knock a few out. the black ones are dacite,  a dovetail, knife blade, small fish point and im not sure what you would call the other one...Cahokia (sp)  i dunno someone help me out on that one.
the white ones are keokuk and the mahogany obs is a pretty little Ishi point, very very uniform, i found the small spall in my depotage pile and figure once that it was too thick for a point. it was about 2 x2" and 3\4" thick when i started, guess when you start getting a little better you can go through your trash pile and find good spalls.   - Ryan

I'm not trying to be a smart a#$ but an ishi point are long 2-3'' narrow and have expanded side notches and not a 3rd notch in the back,  what you made is what i call a tri-notch  and there is another name for it to.
but regardless there all real nice! Grate knapping!

The large Keokuk looks like a notched gilford, some knappers call erm lanceRlots. but i dont think they notched them.
