Gordon's bows are really inspirational. Not only are they very well made but he goes to great lengths to create tips, handles, and dyes to make them works of art.

Last fall I received a call from a gentleman in Washington State. Mike had seen my ambush style vine maple bow on the Web and asked if I would make him another like it. But instead of a rawhide back he wanted snakeskin and a lower draw weight.

I did not have any suitable vine maple that was dry but I had a hazelnut stave which Bryan Briand had generously provided to me that looked like it might do the trick. Mike expressed an interest in seeing the process of how his bow was made so I decided that I would document the steps in a build-a-long. Three months and over 200 pictures later, the bow is finally done. You can’t really appreciate how much time goes into making one of these bows until you have to describe each and every step!

Gordon won BOM in January for both self and laminate bows. The comments below reflect his overall craftsmanship.

A real beauty has won. Congratulations.
Besides a perfekt tiller, I like the contrasts between the snake, the wood and the dyed tips.

Great job Gordon.  The build along from this bow will be helping guys build bows for years to come. It has definitely effected the amount of detail I put into mine. Justin

it was the build along that did it for me,

I learned as much from that as i have from all my bows so far,

I still find myself referencing back to it.

    The pictures really don't do the bow justice.  It is a piece of art and reflects Gordon's  skill.  Those of us who know him and see his work on a day to day basis probably take his work for granted, so it is so nice to be reminded just how good his work is.  The build-a-long has gotten me to the point where I feel comfortable enough to actually finish some of the 7-10 staves that are sitting around unfinished.  Congratulations on a well deserved award!
