After seeing Marc's crossbow in PA magazine a few months ago I had to build a few of them. here is one of them. its a bamboo backed hickory prod pulling 145-150 pounds at 12" . Shoots like a rocket. The bow prod is 35" tip to tip. Its surprising at the energy stored in a high draw weight ,short bow. It buries the bolts in a bale of hay completly.
Yeah thats a an ugly bailing twine temporary string. These are allot easier to make than they look . Dangerous too, be careful.

Awesome!!! I have to try this. What is the foot strap made of?
Dan

The foot strap is made from typical steel banding from a crate
-
It seems like the bow is leaning to the right at full draw. Nice work though.

jim
thats cool 8)
i do agree with justin,it does look like its leaning to the right at draw.could this just be caused by the string not being pulled at center?
-
The string is indeed not pulled straight back, ( Which it should be) The tips are reflexed slightly and one ofthem has more reflex than the other one. this prod was actually a failed glue up of a reflex deflex saved. The reflexed parts of the limbs had cracked under the strain of an improperly placed clamp with no support. Sooooo, instead of throwing it away used it for a crossbow. Made fast shooter for sure. Hope some of you guys try it. By the way a person has to shoot it instinctively just the same as a longbow without plastic sites etc. Its fun to watch the bolt fly so quickly into a bale of hay.

I like that, I made one a couple years ago with a wheel lock,if thats what it's called, scary thing it was. Nice job on the Crossbow.PK

Nice work Jim 8). Does look a bit scary :o

Just imagine how scary it would look from the ground in front of a battlement manned by a whole division of the King's cross bowmen, peering down at you.......
