Post by: OldBow on February 05, 2009, 11:15:14 am
Congratulations to James Parker of Creston North Carolina
Dana M Now Has This tie-Vote Winner of January Laminate Bow of the Month

http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,10844.0.html
I worked out a trade with James for this bow, gotta be my best trade to date  Anyone who hasn't shot one of James' bows just don't know what their missing. His craftsmanship and attention to details is just incredible. This is by far the best shooting bowI have ever shot. Shoots fast, hard and is a pleasure to shoot. I shot every arrow in my quiver through it and all of them shot well,
they ranged from rivercane, tonkin, spruce, hardwood shoots and even carbons. I am impressed to say the least. Thank you for the trade James and we will talk next fall about our next trade
About the bow:66" NTN 49#@26" Bamboo back and carmelized bamboo belly, black walnut riser, cherry ,blonde mohaghany lamspaduke and horn tip overlaysrattan wrapped handle
Here's some admiring comments:"Nice Bow Dana....I wish I had the Time to get into Laminated Bows....or the Room!!! That looks like an Awesome Shooter...take it to Twin Oaks....so I can shoot Her!!" -ElDestructo
"Yeah, James' bows are in a class all by themselves, that boy is gonna fool around and learn how to make a shooter one of these days if he isn't careful....." -Hillbilly
"Yup I'm a lucky Yooper and I bet I'm the only Yooper with one of James' bows. Hmmm maybe I can be his northern sales rep" -DanaM

AND
And Congratulations to Niels Böttcher (Cooper) of Hamburg Germany With a Tie With His BambooAction Wood Bow
For January Laminate Bow of the Month

From Cooper:
OK, as my start as an new member at this forum, I want to show you the last bow I made.
I finished it last summer (well, I was starting the summer before - I'm sometimes a slow bowyer).
It is a nearly "Angular Bow", similar to the egyptian design. Bamboo-actionwood backed with bamboo (= BBB?).

As the result of a failure with an BBB-Longbow I had two, more or less tillered but now relatively short, limbs from bamboo-actionwood and a bamboo-backing. After this stuff reproach me my mistake for more than one year (I swear this limbs were looking angry to me) I decided to make another try.
I made a deflex splice in the handle and glued the limbs with 6'' (15cm) reflex.
Then I added black locust and maple for the handle and black locust for the tips.

The Tillering was a little tricky because of the narrow limbs but I think it is OK so far.
After the first arrows there was a little crack at one node of the bamboo-backing, so I decided to patch and wrap them all. It looks not so bad, I think. The reflex went down to 2 3/4'' (7cm) after the tillering and the first shootings. But now it is constant.
I tillered the belly just the normal way.
First the limbs were to small at all for tillering the sides (because of the dam…… first try - it was no good idea to use white glue at one of the warmest days if more than 30 clamps will be used … have I told you, that I am a slow bowyer?)
Second the belly is bamboo actionwood - vertical glued bamboo. You can handle it like normal wood.
I hope you like this bow …  Length NtN 57'' (145cm)  45lb / 27''
Width at Fade Outs 1 1/8'' (argh, is this right? I hate this "inch-thing") (28mm)  Width at the tips 15/32'' (12mm)
Lots of praise for this bow from forum members:
"Very nice bow. You can get a lot of bend out of that boo. "  Limey-Josh
"Great bow and welcome to PA.....Brian " (koan)
"Great llooking bow, Cooper.  Welcome to PA.  You will enjoy the people on this site.  Your bow looks to be very well-crafted.  Keep them coming."-DirtyDan

Well, I was half right on this one anyway - LOL. Congrats to James  (and the new owner Dana), and also to "Cooper". As usual i am running way behind with getting pics on my Full Draw pages But I will do it shortly. Have been very engrossed lately in a 9 vol. series of historical novels by Jack Whyte , about the Arthurian time period (lots of Yew ELB mentions in there too). Pics will be at bottom of Page 19 of the TBD pages of my web site.
.....................................................................

Would you believe I got it done today? LOL
