Post by: darren1968 on March 09, 2009, 08:19:02 am
I`ve heard of hunters using spears to hunt game, and i`d like to find out about making and using spears for hunting?
Does any1 here know of a site or sites offering this info?

Many Thanks.

As far as I know, most states don't allow spears for hunting game or fur-bearing animals.  Non-game, non-protected animals are fine, though.
You might be able to hunt feral hogs on private land with a hand-held spear (an ancient art) but I think it depends on your state's hunting regs.

The best spears for hunting (IMO) are atlatls. You can google "atlatl" and find many sites with good info.  Youtube also has good videos on the subject.

like said an atlatl works well, takes some practice but is better than a spear cause you can reach out there a bit miore.

It is legal to hunt deer with a spear in Alabama.

Check out the Atlatl section on paleoplanet, takes alot of practice to successfully hunt with spears.
