That's a beauty, James!
You gotta remember to send me some thumb measurements for the ring we talked about!
Also...how is the "prototype" you promised me coming? ;D Hope you found suitable secret ingredients for the build. I dearly want to wring one of those out in the backyard.

Do you get any finger pinch with the bow being that short? I suppose nothing that can't be remidied with a thumb ring. I have never shot with a thumb ring but I am going to make one and try it out. Again,, Awesome bow...makes me want to hack a few inches off of mine!!
-
great bow brother, I had the opportunity to shoot one of those horse bows once... my uncle Dancing Bear had one and taught me to shoot Kasai style speed shooting... I couldn't believe how fast and accurate my shooting was with those little bows.. Thanks for sharing .....Hawk a/ho
-
WOW, now THIS is impressive!
What kind of bamboo did you use for this projekt??
I have matching pairs of Madake, maybe I'll try one some day...
F.
-
Durn, cuz, you're gonna fool around and figure out how to make a bow one of these days if you don't watch it. ;D That looks like a rocket launcher. You're gonna have to teach me how to shoot with one of those thumb rings, never tried it.
-
That's an killer looking bow James!
Alan

thank all of you most respectfully..i have worked hard on a couple of my boo bows and with many failures,it is good when i have sucsess...its one of the hardest designs thus far..that kind of tiller in bamboo was most difficult...i have to give credit where due..herb reynolds was a great teacher he helped me make my first lam bow,and then turnt me loose.also mike treadway was an even greater enfluence and took the time to help me out on what i was doing wrong...and then of course all the years and time i have put into making bows ,and WAISTING a whole lot of money on R and D..im glad i have made it this far....i have one more project to finish some day ,.. hillybilly you and pat can shoot them at the classis................thanks guys .......robustus

Some close-ups of siyahs and handle would be really nice!

Very nice work James,Can't wait to see it up close, the one you shot at the Classic last year was rocket launcher. :) You make some incredible bows. :)
Pappy
-
thanks pappy-- i will post pics up close ,sometime today....im fixing to leave out with another officer for some work up the woods....thanks again guys.....james
-
Another fine looking bow James. I came across an article "turk bow without horn" and tried my hand at it. Sinew backed osage - I was dissapointed. It shot really slow and sluggish right before it collapsed ;D.
-
I never would have believed such a design was possible with only the materials you employed. Congratulations!
-
Sweet bow. I cant believe you can do that with bamboo and it still looks so good unstrung. If I tried that it would have massive set. :) Great work .
-
Robustus, great looking bow, I love those curves! You did good, and I hope to shoot one someday! Steve
-
Wow that is quite an accomplishment and definitely pushing the limits of "all-wood" bow designs. great job on a one of a kind bow. Congratulations
-
Very, very nice Robustus! I really like those asiatic bows and it's great to see an all wood version of it.
-
Very cool bow! I've thought about trying one of those, but I haven't had the nerve to yet. Great job!
-
Great lookin bow James excellent work as usual.Ron

Thats just sick James :) I want one :D

I really like that one James....take it to Pappy's....and I will take it off of your hand s for you...that way you can make a New and Improved Parker Version.......... 8) ;) >:D
-
Sorry Mike, I think Kinfolk might be in line first, even Branch ones. :D ;) That is one, hot looking bow James. Man you keep going shorter and shorter. By the way, got a turkey and drilled another hog in the forehead with that 48"er I got of yours.
-
A fantastic bow and a real masterpiece.
I am fascinating about the idea of a all-wood-horsebow too. It is a great challenge.
-
thanks cooper
-
Really nice and a great candidate for March Laminate Bow of the Month for sure.
-
Impressive, a lot's called, few chosen!Mike
-
Not sure how I missed this one? Man that is nice.I love those short recurves ,I just can't shoot them worth a crap.
Always wanted to try one of them thumb rings myself, just figure I'd have a hard time with that arra being on the wrong side of the bow? :) ;)
-
thanks timo and fisher.....robustus
-
All I can say is "WOW!"
-
That is a beauty James, and can full appreciate the persistence and trials involved in creating such a refined, and unique design.
Rich

thank you greatly ....james
-
Stunning bow and just like one I have been planning in my head for years.
How wide is it?
Any tips for someone hoping to make a similar impossible all wood curvy bow?
I'd really like you to give away some of the secrets in the way it was put together, tillered etc.

That is one cool looking bow!!! Do you shoot with a thumb ring?
-
yes jbl ,i use a thumb ring a lot ,since starting with one several years ago ,my accuracy has greatly increased....thanks for looking
-
That bow is really quite a accomplishment! Sounds like you've more then paid your dues and now you're reaping the benefits! Look forward to seeing it at the Classic! ;)

what the heck is a thumb ring???????????????????????????/
-
Shooter, a thumb ring is an ancient release aid. It is a ring of horn, bone, ivory, etc that fits on the thumb of the string hand. The string is hooked over the thunb ring, middle finger hooks over the thumb and the string is pulled. When shooting with a thumb ring the arrow goes on the right side of the bow(for right hand shooting) which is opposit of a traditional type draw. These were used primarily be horse archers in the past.
-
There is also a Turkish Thumb Ring that was worn on the thumb of his left hand it looked like a Ring with a 4-5 inch long quarter moon shaped tray that the Arrow set on ....like an Overdraw for a Compound Bow.....And when flight-shooting ....This ingenious devise enabled the archer to draw the point of his arrow from 2 to 3 in. within the inner surface of his bent bow..... He was thus
able to shoot a short and light arrow that would fly much farther than the considerably longer and heavier one he would have had to use if he had shot in the ordinary manner without the grooved horn overdraw ring....The groove in the horn guides the arrow in safely past the side of the bow when the bowstring is released by the archer. The Turks in fact shot a shorter and lighter arrow from more powerful bow.....which he drew to the same draw as if he used an arrow 3 inches longer.... with a shorter lighter Arrow...the results were a lot less drag to slow flight...and shorten the Arrows flight

hey rob ,my thumb fit is 21.90 mm on the inside center rim of the silver ring i use mostly,,thats from side to side...thanks...james...p.s. the clear rings are just awsome as can be...
-
Gotcha...so you think something like 22.5 mm would be a good fit for the front to rear, so you can put it on and twist 90 degrees to fit?
-Rob
-
yes,,and when i get back from the tenn classic i eill send you a bow to try.....
-
James, I will be picking your ear at the TN Classic about how you built that bow. I think I may try one myself. They look fantastic and if I know how you build them they probably shoot the same way too!!!!
David T
-
thanks tiller,i will be teaching a bow building class at the classic ,using the string wedge tech..you should attend it..i may have several bow kits ready for glue up ,for sale there.i will try to have the class early as possible sat morning,so the bows will cure out by that evening....see ya there .......james

David T
-

-

-
James, that is an excellent deal!
-
I might just have to take the class myself. That is a great deal.
-
thanks guys even if you dont purchase a kit ,please feel free to sit in....james
-
Sweet James. So RD is over for you?Looking foward to Pappy's place
-
hey tom ,i will see you there
-
That's a nice bow James. Just out of curiosity how much reflex do you glue into these bows to start with?
-
mark the bow in the pic has 2" reflex ,everything preloaded, back and belly strips, and core lams,im building my 7th one now and adding more reflex on each bow,by .50" at a time.the belly strip gives more trouble than anything else, with that much radical bend through the limb( knee),i have encountered longitudle split on the belly boo for its entire length, but now have overcome that problem.but only thruogh sacrificing early draw weight, but the bows still top out at mid to high poundage, similar to an actual horn bow.on a bow of this design and all natural,it only reaches its full potenal at longer draw lengths,hence-- using a thumbring ,although the more reflex i add the more early draw weight i retain.....james

James
So you are saying the bow has kept 2" of reflex after tillering and shooting? I find that I have to glue in about 4"~5" of reflex to keep about 2" on similar style bows of about 60" length.
You must have easy access to Bamboo to be making all those Bamboo bows. Bamboo is hard for me to get and it's expensive otherwise I would use it more also
-
you have read my reply wrong ,the two " of reflex was glued in ,that particular bow in the pic, after the bow was shot in ,and settled in ,taking memory to the bends , it did not retain all the reflex that was built in,that is why each time i build one i add more gradual reflex to each bow.i have found ,through building many boo bows, that adding a little at a time is far more sucssesfull than too much all at once...each new bow design that i make .the first bow starts out at its lowest poundage,to show all mistakes more easily,.then i adjust accordinally, the poundage, tiller, and overall dimension..after the third to fith bow i have pretty much got what i was looking for..
-
too cool
-
I don't think I have shot an all wood bow that short and that fast. James, if you run short of Boo, I have plenty and no room to store anymore. See you at Pappy's.
