Title: NUTHER KNIFE......GOTTA GET BACK TO BOWS!!!!

Well...I had enough time off this Weekend ...since my Shut Down ended...that I built that Arrow Slinger...and this Neato Skinner .... It a really Tiny Knife ...should be really handy though this Fall for Skinning Deer and such.... The Blade is 2 3/4"440 Stainless Steel...it's 6 1/2 Inches Long overall....The Handles are made from Birdseye Maple Burl from back Home....I made the Sheath from 6 ounce Veggie Tanned Shoulder Bullhide...I wetTooled it ....sewed it up with a double Saddle Stitch with Artificial Sinew...dyed it with Feibing's Light Brown Dye and then I soaked it in Eco-Flo Super Sheen to make the Leather soft enough to shape to the Knife ...when this stuff dries it is like it was coated with an Epoxy Resin....makes the Leather Hard....Shiny....and Waterproof to boot....I hope You like it as much as I liked making it.....Dan....Yeah I know ....I got You on the List for one.....I will have it for you by the time We go to Pappy's.... promise...... :P

its like 2 1/2 ft in diameter,i see i BOWIE KNIFE in the making >:D

Thanks Guys....I really need to get a Buffer though....this Grinder turns too fast....and it's really dangerous too...throws Blades at Me all the Time... :-[....If I could get one that runs slower...I would probably be able to put a nice Mirror finish on them....You can still see all kinds of scratches once the Flash hits it......... :'( Sure glad these Shims are free....otherwise this would get expensive!!

Saw Blade...what kind of Blade???

good looking knife, it arta work fine.

never heard of using epoxy on the leather. are you using lighter fluid to thin it? thats what i use when making some of my flyfishing flies.

Bobby....I didnt say I used epoxy...I said that the Super Sheen is Water Based ....but set up as hard as Epoxy does....the Leather is nice and stiff....and holds the shape of the Blade perfectly

I just got one of the wet/dry bench grinders.  One side has a normal stone that turns 3400 rpm's, and the wet side has a 8" X 2" thick wheel that turns 160 rpms.  I have not tried it yet, 160 may be too slow.

I bet the 160 will work....as long as it's geared low...so it has the Power to buff with....3400-3600 is too fast in my Book....I was hoping I could put a Dimmer switch on this one and slow it down....I ain't no Electrician though....so if anyone out there is...and knows....let me know if this is possible....OK??

Do you have a Tandy Leather Store near You?? Or a Michaels or Hobby Lobby?? Or you can do an eBay search for it and there is all kinds of it for sale

 Mike, I use my buffing wheel in my Drill Press, and adjust the belts to slow it down. Also a car polisher with jewelers rouge works.

Thats my next Purchase ....a Drill Press....it is a biotch to drill holes in Stainless Steel....and with a Hand Drill...forget it....I take them to work to drill now...so I think I will hit Harbor Freight for a Bench Top Drill Press this Weekend!!

Sweet knife Mike, I have a arbor mounted buffing wheel that I just chuck up in a variable speed drill seems to work ok

ok , maybe i should stop and read a little better. i have a 1800 rpm buffer that i find is perfect for buffing, but i wish i could slow it down sometimes. those things will hurt you if you arent careful .
