Title: stave drying
Post by: NTProf on June 07, 2009, 01:40:15 pm
I have a question. I cut a few sapling in the 2-3 inch range, and I reduced them to "near-bow" dimension. Then in order to prevent warping I clamped them to a 2x4. My question is how long the stave needs to dry before I can take it off the board without it warping on me?

I'd give it at least a month. You may have to re strap it if it still wants to warp.

I have a shed and it some times gets over a hundred in there. Therefore it takes me only one week

If the wood is freshly cut and you force dry it in high heat there is a chance of getting bad checks. I like to let the wood equalize first before I put it to a hotbox.
