hey guys, well its to freakin hot to knap or do anything out in this AL. heat. no wind and 99 outside, ughhhhhh! :P so i decided to post some pics but i'm doing it the lazy way today. heres a link to my photo bucket page and the first page is last weeks points. but please check out any other pics i have. and whats your temp were you at and how you beating it? i'm on trhe comp of course inside.http://s328.photobucket.com/albums/l338/knap_123/

That's some mighty fine work knap! and some pretty rock. It's 101,101,103 on Thurs. then a cold front on Friday - 98 :-X.

Been running 98 for the past several days, I'm a self employed carpenter so I go to work early and try to quit at 3;30 Under the hose alot.
I have a cool shop so I can knapp without much trouble. They are calling for this heat for several more days. It wouldn't be to bad ifin the humidity would just let up a bit.....I started carrying a matchete to cut the air where ever I walk. ;D

I made a few out of creek rock ,hard stuff I keep getting Guitar picks instead of points ,Ill be glad when my load of dacite gets here.

Low 90's lately (cold front). Mostly around 100 and windy. Doesn't put a damper on the knappin' though. I just keep a large pitcher of ice water within arm's reach. And there's also the garden hose. Oh yeah, and something to drink. ;D

103 yesterday...no wind and 68% humidity.....today was a brisk 96 and no wind.....sure glad I have Shade Trees!!!

I'm glad I live south , :P yeah it's been a real mutha.Only I live real close to the gulf/bay it's only been a 96/96 temp/humidity mix.I seen a dog chasing a cat and they were both walking.My hats are off to yall who live inland

We've been the same as Bonepile, except, I'm the poor soul that lives inland. We've been setting records here. I don't mind the heat, just hate the clouds of mosquito's as soon as you try to sit down.

Nice points ya got there Jaeger! Some triangular, corner notched, side notched, stemmed, serrated ;D. Careful when ya get the dacite, easy to make - easy to break. So where are you and what's your temps?

I'm between Puget Sound and the Pacific and it was 78 today, according to the WeatherBug. Almost too warm, but I went out and knapped a couple points anyway; pics attached. I submit that they looked a hell of a lot nicer in my hand than in the pictures. I gotta get a new camera! Thanks all of you guys for posting your points as it gives me something to shoot for.
Timo; Thanks for posting the rock run thread. That's just the info I need. I'll be in Springdale, AR, in a couple weeks and I'll be heading up toward Joplin to look for that quarry. Does the quarry have a name? What highway is it off of?

Its been in the 90's here in southern Indiana, but a cold front is comming. It will be 87 with thunderstorms tomorrow. Yesterday me and a buddy was chippin' rocks on the front porch with a fan on us. Mommy doesn't like me chippin' in the house, I don't know why... ::) Something about diggin' shards out of the bottom of her foot , I think...
Nice point Newbow, obsidian is like a woman, beautiful and could cut ya deep if you don't treat it with respect! :D

we got to a frigid overnight low of 84 today....supposed to be near 105 for a High

Even been hot up her in da north, went from highs in the 50's to mid 80's with 98% humidity :o
For me that is down right miserable but its better than snow eh :)

Fourth day in a row we have it triple digits. Yesterday the heat index hit 111. What's worse is can't even get in the gulf because water temp is like a sauna. Warm water has the sting rays running like crazy too! Its june and I'm already wanting fall weather...

It's 78 daytime and in the mid fiiftys at night. I'm at about 3500 ft in the North Carolina mountains.

You are right, it isn't bad at all. The cold is what is bad. Ill take the heat anytime. ;)

come to al. were its so hot you dont want to hold a piece of flint left in the sun to long. you smell like a skunk because your sweating so hard. theres no breeze, to many mosquitos, and if you even walk in the woods your going to have at least 2 ticks on you in minutes. you actually want to go to the grocery store just to stand by the meat and cool off. you dont want to walk more than a few feet or you'l get chaped because your shorts are sticky and hot! your lips stay cracked from dehydration and beer just want stop the thirst + its hot! OHHHH dont get me started!!! :-\

Ah hell I'm in the middle east GA. that is south of Augusta we usually stay around 96 degrees and 99% humidity.Just gotta learn to cope.Ron

I'm with Justin, I'd rather have it a hundred than 30 degrees. It's the only time we can drive on uncrowded roads. All the whining snowbirds go back home till they can whine about the snow next year. And my air conditioner has run 24-7 since November.

I'm with Justin, I'd rather have it a hundred than 30 degrees. It's the only time we can drive on uncrowded roads. All the whining snowbirds go back home till they can whine about the snow next year. And my air conditioner has run 24-7 since November.
I wasn't even considering that part of it. About 1/3 the cars on the road without all the snowbirds. It takes me about half the time to get where I want to go.

I tried knappin the other day and by hte time I was done I was drenched in sweat, had rock shards sticking all over me and nothin to show for it except a broken point. I was working on a nice piece of costal plains and while thinning it I got fustrated. Well long story short I hit it in the wrong place and snapped it in half. What really sucks is that was my last piece. Shoulda put it down and drank another cold one.By the way it was pushing 100 with the humidity.

Kinda cool here today...95...I went to the shop bout 6pm and whacked out a couple keokuk points. Doing a point trade over on PP. Figure I'll send the dalton.Not the cleanest points but I am still learning this rock. Was trying for an andice on the other one, but had a notch stall on me, so I quit.

I like the colors in that rock Timo! Whitish/pinkish with those rusty streaks - looks alot better than boring gray ;). Killer points too!

went to the beach yesterday to try and beat the heat. the water was warm and i'm totally burnt! 4 hr, drive there and back and both my girls are spewing there guts out from swalling salt water! man, dont even get me going again. ;)

Hey Knap, I'm about 25 miles north of Talahatta Springs which is in the Talahatta Hills. Both are in Clarke County by Thomasville. I am going on a rock run over by Troy somewhere this Friday. I want to get some of that coastal plains before it gets too hot. Bill

Been sprinkling on and off since last Friday here. Hasn't stopped it from being 108* yesterday and 109* today. And I still wouldn't trade a whole summer of this for one week of that cold crap that Dana keeps talking about. Man I hate the cold. Justin

I can't wait to get out there Justin. Got a lead on where to pick up some dacite from Jim Winn - can't remember the little town but it's right on I 40 about halfway across AZ. It rained like a cow doin you know what here in Austin today - ooooh, that was nice ;).

Well Justin you can have all of this You want....it is ridiculous here.....heat indexes in the Triple Digits every Day....and We haven't had but 5 inches of Rain to date....if it keeps up this way....in 10 years they will all be moving to the Coast....or maybe Florida to see Eddie....because We will be with out Drinking Water...and the Cattle and Agriculture will all die...and I don't think that Red Clay and Caliche are very edible........ :P I would gladly trade Dana for 3 months of Michigan's Wet and Cold Weather a Year...just to aid this Drought We have been in for 10 years now

Buy into Triticalie shares! Thats "Rye" for all ya normal folk. Great cold weather crop for short growing seasons makes some prety good liquer too! The Southwest like Arizona and that area will become prime farm land due to more precipitation. Happened for the Anisazi durring the Maunder Minimum! I would also put your money into stocks for home heating companies and such.
Just my two cents on the subject!

Spent the 4th digging and hauling. Got about 300-400 pounds of rock. The temperture only hit 96 degrees and the humidity was only in the mid 50's. For some reason, I usually wait until mid August when it gets hot and nasty. Then I go get rock. Bill

Usually tallahatta over by McCardie's Landing in Choctaw County. When they built the road, they had to cut through a 6 foot sheet of rock. They moved three or four chunks the size of kitchen tables about 50 yards down a steep ditch. You go down, knock off some, load a bucket, and one handed claw your way back up. Unfortunately, those rocks have been ground away, so I need to find a new source of Tallahatta. Bill

Ok....I am about sick of these Triple Digits!!! But there is no end in sight for the next thirty days at least....... This was at Noon....it's now 111 outside in the Shade...was 123 at the Refinery....sure glad I have A/C in my Crane!!!

i think it was the 70's-80's and scientist were talking about the same thing because "average temps" werent being hit that often and they called it "global cooling"
i was young back then,but if i remember right they claimed it was caused by man. hmmmmm
bill skinner: i live in minnesota,and would be happy to have your summer high temps if i could also have you winter lows
i hate freezing my whoo whoo's off in the winter,feels like it last 8 months.
usually starts early nov,and ends in like may.so i guess it is almost 8 months.

Tracy......You must have lake Superior confused with another one of the Great Lake..... by the end of August....the high is barely 55....and thats Surface Temperature.....if you dive in from the Cliffs or the Lighthouses like I used to....and go down 20 foot deep....the water temp is only 42.......you may Dive in with the Family Jewels....but Ya come out with a Vienna Sausage....and two Prunes... >:D........ :P.............. ;).
