I started this summer with two bows I was going to build for myself to hunt with. That changed when Greg B went to the wood barn to help a friend find a piece of wood to build a bow. He came up with the log that Pappy named the new project. They split and cut out the rough bows and one had my name on it. Man what good friends I have.
This is the bow I built. It is 62" tip to tip. 52# @ 28" with two layers of sinew covered with a pair of prarie rattler skins. I sealed it with truoil and Minwax clear satin polyurethane. This was the most challenging piece of osage I have worked on. The tiller is not perfect I know but I am still learning. The grip is a piece of elk skin I traded some spliced feather work for Greg. I tried to do a little more with it then most grips I do aftervseeing Greg's. The Tips are cow horn covered with deer horn. I just want to have a good hunting season with it. Hope you like it.

-
Great job on that one! Beautiful weapon. Good luck hunting.

I'm so proud our bows all turned out good, that was a challenging piece of osage to tackle!
BigA, I think this is the nicest bow you've made! It really turned out sweet and I know you took your time and put a lot of effort into it and it shows! A really nice finish job and great attention to detail...I especially like your grip. Fine job on the tiller as well and the bow is a very smooth shooter. Hope you get a shot at bullwinkle with it! :)

for some reason i have suddenly began to like snake bows even more that i did before. ;D
thats kool how the handle is sideways and with suck a big crook just below it. how dose she shoot?

She shoots good. The way the handle truns gives you a natual cant and center shot.
-
Excellent, I love the big kick at the handle..really makes use of the natural shape.

Wow, that turned out great! I am glad you all three (Greg B, Pappy, and you BigA) found success with each split of the stave. What a wonderful project you guys undertook and was justly rewarded with three killer bows. There is nothing wrong with the tiller on your bow, looks great to me. Nice finish work too, i love your tip overlays! -Josh

Great looking bow Anthony. I'd say that's about a perfect piece of osage. Center shot, natural cant to the handle, built in medium wrist grip. All that plus SNAKEY! What more could a fella ask for!
I know you'll have luck with it this fall. I might even get lucky enough to shoot it once. (hint hint) ;D
-
Looks top shelf to me! Love the handles on them bows you guys made. Looks like a good palm fit to me. the unbraced profile and the full draw pic, tell that bow is sweet in the hand. very nice job!
-
The tiller looks good to me. That's a really attractive bow you built there.
-
I had forgot you posted that one,now it's time to put it to work. ;) ;D in about 26 hours. ;)

Big A-
That's one of the nicest snake jobs I've ever seen. Sweet bow. Did you wrap the rattler skin or just glue it on and let it set? If you wrapped it, what with?
-
I just glued it and let it set. I soak the skins in warm water and then lay them on a towel to dry them for a few minutes. They are easy to work with now. Spread your glue ( Titebond III ) then lay the skin on. I line the center of the skin pattern to the center of the bow limb.I then start at the tip and slowy work my way down to the handle removing the air bubbles and getting a good glue contact. After an hour or so I start to rough trim the skin and recheck for air pockets. Then just let it dry good to do my final trimming, descaling and then the sealing. It is not hard. Just TAKE YOUR TIME.

Right on. Good luck in your stand!

Very nice bow from a very tricky stave, great work and very good attention to detail. Congratulations. Keenan
-
Nice bow,good job!! God Bless

I got to touch it and hold it several weeks back, haha ! Awesome Big A. I really hate it though cause it is a righty and not a lefty. Now that we got Mason armed to the teeth we gotta get me a lefty started. If ya'll run across some osage that has a natural cant for a lefty save it for me and tell me what I owe. I done went and got the yellow shavin fever ! It is all them Twin Oak boys fault too ! Hope you get a monster with that bow Big A, you deserve it bud.
