Title: Rattlesnake, copperhead, and HRB pens
Post by: ZanderPommo on January 11, 2010, 10:27:32 pm
hey Mike this is yours just PM your address one more time sir, thanks for waiting. i didn't have a plan for when my lathe broke :-[
sawfiler your honduran rosewood burl is up next. thanks for waiting fellas. the new lathe is up and running. still a crap machine but now i can make $$ and buy a better one at least.
Rattlesnake (western diamondback??) skin handcasted and turned by myself in crystal clear polyester resin, on a chrome cigar kit.
so, lets do this gladiator style, thumbs up or thumbs down? I can always make a slimmer style if that would be prefered.

enjoy

wow thanks but thats really not necessary.yall are too nice for your own good!
besides unless the skins are either tanned, or dry and raw but thin and paper flexible, they probably won't work. :'(
i got some raw (dried) copperhead skins from sawfiler but those were very thin, which is i believe why they worked so well.(man you should see how those came out--stunning! thanks again sawfiler)

thanks though, and thank you for the nice comments :)

That's cool and all but I have a hard time holding on to the same pen for more than a day at work. I'll stick with a bik.  ::)

:o
yeah, you might want to avoid using these lol
i haven't perfected the boomarang feature yet, its still in developement.
eventually i'll just make these so they fly through the air and come hurtling back to you when you lose it, but i'm still working on that ::)

Eddie this is your pen, shown next to Michaels. this illustrates the difference in size between a slimline and a cigar style pen.
copperhead skin from sawfiler, on a black enamel slimline
like it?

next to a couple blanks fresh out of the mold, before squaring and turning, these are for sierra style pens. thats a one piece pen, so this is enough for two

Post by: ZanderPommo on January 13, 2010, 01:09:26 am
yes.or else air bubbles would be trapped underneath them. easy peasy though, i just scraped them with a (non serrated lol) knife for a minute........then vacumed...
do you want one from this skin or the other one you're sending?

like i said, i aint got nothing to trade,i dont spine shafts. ishoot htem and pick the best shooters.fletching, well where i live you only get one turkey in spring, one in the fall
thats all the fletching i use right there, and snake skins,ya right if i had them i would be using them. i live in the land of pretty much nothing.no snakes to speak of,no good rock, only thing i have in abundance is cold and snow lol

Title: Re: Rattlesnake!!!!!......pen--and copperhead
Post by: sailordad on January 13, 2010, 10:27:10 pm
well i have a slab of pipestone,weighs about 10#
i also have some hhb staves, but for what they would cost to ship it would be cheaper just to buy a pen from you
other than that all i have is a bunch of points that i have knapped,a few stone knives
i could make up a wall hanger arrow or two.
Title: Re: Rattlesnake!!!!!......pen--and copperhead
Post by: Justin Snyder on January 13, 2010, 10:59:29 pm
You did those snake skins proud. Ill start saving you all the little snakes that are hit on the road. After I cut out the bad spots they are just right for arrow cresting and should work great for this also.
Title: Re: Rattlesnake!!!!!......pen--and copperhead
Post by: ZanderPommo on January 13, 2010, 11:09:46 pm
thank you Justin, that would be great ;D
sailordad, just send me a dozen or so hhb staves and we'll call it even >:D
nah your right shipping them things is crazy, and if i hung anymore arrows in my house guests would be in significant danger :o :D
no idea if this is asking too much but how about 3 weight matched, 1 in wide roughly 1 1/2 in long points for deer/turkey hunting?
I could make you a copperhead sierra style pen (like in my trade ad), or a copperhead or rattler cigar? or a slimline?... so i dunno if that is equal to the value of 3 points?
let me know

wet sanded to 12,000 grit, then hit with plastic polish, so it better be shiny! :)

Sawfiler.
both of your pens are done, and will go out just as soon as I can get me a couple more padded envelopes :)

The first pic is of your HRB (Honduran rosewood burl) pen prior to turning, in case you were wondering. It has a ton of figure, and came out very well. It has amazing eyes and chatoyance. I think you'll love it.

The next few pics are of both your HRB and copperhead pens. Since I used the same skin you have a sister pen to Eddie's. (kinda cool huh? ;))  bright copper metal plating on the copperhead, and gun metal plating on the HRB. enjoy!

please excuse the reflection and crappy pics, still working on my photography skills.
next up is sailordad, skyarrow (as soon as I get those nib assemblies for them dip pens of course skyarrow), and Adb (as soon as your skins arrive to cast)

skyarrow I'm in the process of making your second pen, the ballpoint for your dad.
NTD finally casted up the two slimline blanks I owe you, this is your update, I will hopefully have time on this upcoming 4 day weekend to turn both your pens as well as skyarrow's, sorry all for the delays, school has been rough in preparing for my AP (advanced placement) tests >:(
.....which I'm not looking forward to.....tests suck.... ::)

is there any convenient place to buy the ink for calligraphy pens? Ive made a couple of crude ones by super imposing the ink sticks out of cheapo pens into turkey feathers, but have kinda been wantin to try some more serious ones

try hobby lobby thats where i get my nibs and ink from and for the replaceable cartridge  calligraphy pens try a office store like office max or office depot

Well today I'm home "sick" as yesterday i was checked into a glass banister during a hockey game and got a bit concussed so I'll hopefully turn your pen tomorrow, and apologies if anything I say makes no sense whatsoever :D
seriously, I'm a bit messed up right now lol, can't remember getting hit, but I remember getting up. apparently it was pretty gruesome, woke up to 15 of my friends trying to pick me up & bring me to the nurse (gym class hockey game)
