Title: Time to stop being a Lurker.
Post by: Agnarr on February 17, 2010, 03:55:04 pm
Hello all,

First off i would like to thank you all for the wealth of information I have gleaned from this board. I have been reading the magazine for about 8 years and started reading the board for a couple. I started building bows last year when my dad passed away, as i needed something to redirect myself. Since then, with the help of all of you I have gone from making fireplace starters that looked like bows to making real shooters. I have made a few good bows. I can make bow strings now as well. I am also making my own arrows.

Now i am starting to get more advanced in what i am doing. I going to start doing a few more ambitious projects. My job leaves me with limited time to work, as I am a social worker working with dual diagnosed adults and children (mental retardation with a mental illness) and work 60 + hours a week for, well i bet you can guess i don't get paid much.  Building bows has really helped me cope with the passing of my Father and with the stress of my job.

So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you for helping me get through a hard part of my life without even knowing it. God Bless.

Dan Sanger

Welcome Agnarr!  Glad to see you posting!  I was a lurker for awhile before I finally got the nerve to post any questions... Then it took awhile before I could post any of my work too.  I was afraid I would get laughed at... Turns out that is not the case with these guys... Never met a nicer, more helpful group... Look forward to seeing some of your work too.   :)  -josh

Welcome Dan, Glad to hear you are stepping out of your comfort zone and becoming more active. We all start in the same place ,,,,"learning" and hopefully we never out grow it as well.   That's what is so great about this site and the members. We learn from each other through the stroke of a keyboard. ;D Don't be afraid to post some of your projects or ask questions.

I mainly had to take time to read the entire site. I did pretty well when i had questions to look over past posts and find the answer. I have found more help in this forum than i have in all of the Bibles. The people here roketh verily.

Interesting Tidbit, My picture has appeared in Primitive Archer. I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms, and i was in the background on one of the pictures they had when the featured us in the magazine a few years ago.

Being a man of few words, just let me say......
Welcome Dan, and this is the place to find answers to all of life's questions, if they pertain to primitive archery, flint knapping, or just primitive life stuff. ;)  And don't let the snipping bit bother you, it doesn't happen often, only from Yoopers, and former yoopers, who play at being a Texican...... ;D ;D ;D  Other than that, it is pretty laid back.  8) Oh, and by the way, try not to use those big words. "Anachronisms"......it confuses the Yoopers, and would be westerners, and most of the southern guys, except for Hillbilly, and I am still trying to figure that one out.  ::) You might hear a couple of them talk about drilling rigs, and their BR5000, xlm rock fragmatizing bit, and how the framinizer fell off of the zorchlock, and darn near ruined ranalator, as it passed through the titanium scattershield on th high powered drill knibilingwatt, that is attached rimlacking quad set, on the vibraton derrick facilator.  But they just want the rest of us normal people to think that they were repeat guests on tool time.  ::) One of them is in Texas, and the other at the moment is in South America, drinking high priced coffee, and pretending to be working at a mine down there.  He is actually looking for Jasper, but they don't know that just yet.  ::) They have cover names like El D, and Mullet. But nonethe less, welcome, and enjoy, and yes these are definitely some of the nicest people you will ever come across.  Just don't bother with the ones who snipe, they just need the attention :)......just acknowledge them now and then, and say something nice to them, and they will be fine, and more than likely be able to answer a question you may have.  Or they may have a question, that you could answer......like what is the word that describes an omni directional time tunnel?  You could answer that for them, and they will shower you with praise, and answers to all of your problems, that you might encounter, and if they can't answer them, they can more than likely commiserate with you as they have more than likely had the same problem, or are having the same problem, at the same time, and then someone else will chime in and answer the question at large.  So welcome, fix your favorite beverage, fix a light snack, and enjoy this wonderful realm of Primitive archery, and camaraderie.

Josh, I was born here in Florida.  Can't get any further south, without changing the language.  ;) My Mother was from Headland, Ala. , and my Father was from the Eastman, Macon area, of Ga.  I just thought I would bring up the big word thing, so we could keep it simple 8)......and someone would explain it to me, without my having to ask.  ::) Dana M, I wasn't pickin on da Yoopers, I was just trying to keep the words, simple, in case a Troll came up your way, and happened to mention that word, and den da whole bunch of Yoopers, what wasn't quite sure what it meant, and decided it was sumptin ta do wit da government, and proceed to unleash unnecessarily harsh words on da poor unsuspectin Troll.  Hey, it could happen now, eh?  But being a man of few words, I will keep it simple, and short.  So you see Dan, the Yooper's and south section jumped right on it.  They are just too easy ::)  >:D Hardly any sport in it. ;D  But that being said, these are but two of the useful sources of information you can turn to.  Just mention that you like beer brats, and pasties, and possum on the half shell. (Armadillo), and you  will immediately have friends. ;)  Don't forget to mention Grits also. ;)     Well Dan, my work for the day is done, now it is back to my retirement routine.  Doing nothing.  My Girlfriend asked me what I did to day, I said nothing, she said you did that yesterday!  I told her I wasn't finished. ;D
