Got the stave from a nearby canyon last summer. Made from billets. 70"ntn. 1 3/4" at flares tapering to 5/8"
Pull only 48# at 26" Kind of wimpy. I don't think mountain maple (Acer glabrum) is as tough as Gordon's vine maple.
Made my first decent Flemish double loop string following the recent thread on bowstrings. Thanks guys.
Bow is called Gator Eye because of a knot on one side.

Very nice Don. Did you induce backset when you spliced the handle? I'm glad you put in a full draw pic so we could enter you in ther BOM for March. ;D Pat
-
Whoops1 Thanks, Pat. Yes, I induced a lot of backset when glueing together the billets.
-
Nice bow. I definitely see the gator in that wood grain.
-
Nice character bow Don. ;D Be careful of the knot on the side of the limb there, looks like the grain is violated pretty bad there, might want to consider a wrap of some sort there... ;)

A gnarly lookin chunk of wood indeed! I like it! :D
-
Nice bow. I really like the name you came up with. The eye looks great.

Great looking bow Don.Those knots look like they were a challenge.A gator skin handle would look good with that bow.

That is a pretty gnarly knot. You did one heck of a job. I think this is the first bow I have seen you post, and that includes the old board. Justin

I used the ol' Z-splice, crammed in some splinters to take up any slack. I'll make a leather handle this weekend for it. Glue is TiteBond2. Color is bogus. Used to be whitewood. I mixed up some MinWax stains to match some hardwood floor trim I needed.

that's a great primitive looking bow. Have you noticed it to be any snappier than normal D profile bows? I have one that has almost the same profile than yours. I like to call the profile "B profile", it's simple and reminds me about bows like that. Learned to call it a B profile from a Finnish native American bow specialist.
