Second day of my first season here in N. Il. Hunted with my son yesterday but he couldn't go today so my hunting buddy went with me to maybe video if something happened.
Had maybe 3 birds gobbling in the area. One was very aggresive with his gobbling and the others were kind of shy. Had blind and decoys set up in middle of field between two timbers. Heard gobbles working in the woods but didn't see any till this one stepped out. He struted toward us for maybe 10 yards and then gobbled and came to us on a dead run. Started rubbing up against the Pretty Boy decoy, had a side shot and a front shot opportunity but he was moving kind of fast so waited till he calmed down a little and took a side shot ....at 3 yards.
Hit him right in the wing and he ran off kind of weaving and wobbly. He made it to the woods and out of sight. I felt good about the hit... the arrow was still in him. We waited and about 15 minutes after the hit we heard wings flapping. I said... I think that is a good sign. We waited about 20 minutes more and had a cup of coffee then went looking. He was just in the woods where we had last seen him go out of sight.
Same little 44# osage bow as last year with the rose shoot arrows and Ace 2 blade broadhead.
Forgot........bird was 23lbs., 10 1/4 inch beard and 1 3/8 spurs.
Thanks for looking!! Lowell

Great Shot ....and a Great Story! Aint no way that I would have gotten one of these Texas Panhandle Rio's that close to a Ground Blind though...too damned Skittish...even during Spring Season when the Hormones are flowing...I use a Ghuille Suit...and either Plum or Mesquite Trees for cover most of the time....too bad the Son couldn't have been with you this Morning

Grats on a great bird! Good to know that someone can get it done! ;)
I'm with El D on this one....That set up would not work here in Mo. Every Gobbler that I ever called in to a blind set up just turned and left when they came into view. I tried many kinds. Finally gave up. :(

AncientArcher76...
Blind has worked good for me and the turkeys don't seem to care a bit about it. But as El d said and I agree.... what you can get away with deer, turkey or whatever in one area may be completely different in another area!!
Hopefully...my next step will be to get one without a blind....but I take "baby steps"!! :-\
I thought we were going to get some good video but my buddy is not too experienced yet with his new camera and we got no footage. I told him Tiffiany would kick him out of her tree!!LOL :D
