Just wondering what types of places I would be able to locally find a dial indicator for spine testers like on this site.

Tool store as in a place like ACE hardware, or an auto parts store?
EDIT: Just found a Harbor Freight store in my town. Thanks N2

ya i would think auto parts store, seeing as to how they are used quit abit in automotives
but that is moot now isnt it ;D

Hey ease up! I'm a newbie to all this, and I think I read somewhere that machinists used them, so thought they *might* be sold in auto-parts stores. :D
-
dmass i wasnt trying to be mean.
i just never think of parts stores for anything but parts.
i bought mine from the snap on guy, never bought tools from the store ;)

lol I know. I'm too uneducated when it comes to stuff like this, but I'm lernin' slowly. It's funny, because I've used things like dial indicators in the past for other things, just never knew where the heck to buy them! :D

I've got one in the box still I'll trade.

I have one I dont need also.
One that I got at an auto parts store by the way. ;D ;D

D'massphoto;
like they said, if you have a harbor frieght, go there, they are relatively inexpensive, and they have the magnetic base stand to put it on, also.

I have two neighbors that sell SnapOn tools. They keep trying to sell them to me, but I go buy the cheap ones. ::)

Thanks guys. I'd rather buy/trade one from you guys rather than the store. Problem is, I don't think I have anything that's enough to trade, (except photography) since I'm just getting started in all this. :-\ I'm still looking for bowmaking tools! :D If either of you would like to sell it to me, feel free to shoot me a PM.

I go the eBay route.
Last time I got 6. With shipping they ended up being $4.15 each and they were new in box items. Worked well for me.

i got mine at harbor freight. by the way you'll love that spine tester, the only thing i had to tweek on mine was that the plunger on the dial indicator was too "springy" so that the weight of the arrow resting on it wasn't enough to hold it on the two supports. But it was too little to measure the force with any instrument i had. I just made two little hooks with fishing weights and coat hanger that i put on the shaft outside of the supports, this holds the arrow on the stands before you put the 2 pounds on. if your indicator doesn't have as much force as mine did, just ignore what i said.

They also have the magnetic base for the indicator at HF also.
