Title: My 110# Mary-Rose Replica (Full Draw Pics)
Post by: duffontap on April 28, 2007, 11:49:22 pm
Hey Guys,

Love to see all the great posts and interest going on here.  I thought I'd keep up the momentum with a couple pics I got at the beach today.  I work at a Bible college on the Oregon coast and I've been promising the students a Medieval day.  We built a big trebuchet out of driftwood, had and ax throwing competition, played with swords and shot bows.  I got a kick out of seeing 220# weight lifters unable to get my bow past 26".  Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha..........ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

I had some good shots for my low skill level.  I was shooting a 1,050 grain arrow 200 yards into a stiff breeze.  This was really one of the first days that it didn't hurt to shoot my bow.  Another month of good days like this and I'll start building a heavier bow.

I'll post my new war bow (this is not it) in a couple days.

Man this stuff is fun!

Wow,
Stunning location.  That bows got real characted and a great tiller, too.  J.D, your elbow looks a lot higher these days compaired to the last images I saw.  It's obviously paying off. :)

Marlon,
Thanks a lot.  I don't know if I'd ever have gotten this thing to full draw without your shoulder exercises.  I depend on them to shoot pain-free, even with hunting weight bows.

Thanks Ratty!

Justin,
I'm under a lot more control than I used to be.  I used to bounce off the ground when I released this bow and almost topple over.  Have you considered building and Osage warbow?

Yeomanbowman,
You're sure right about the elbow position!  The pictures I originally posted on englishwarbow.com/forum were from the first time I ever shot it.  I was getting whipped by that bow.  Jaro sent me some videos right away that helped me to straighten things out.  It's sure helping.  Thanks for the kind words about the bow.  It was a bit of a character stave for a war bow but I like the look at full draw.

Miles,
Thanks a lot.  I'm so glad PA is doing this.

Marc,
I don't blame you a bit.  These bows are fun to make and fun to shoot.  I've got another that I'll post soon--same weight as this one.  I tillered my new bow a little rounder in the handle so I'll have to see how the two compare.  As far as I know there are a couple schools of thought on how these war bows should be tillered.  This bow bends progressively more toward the tips which is what Tim Baker describes as perfect tiller for heavy war bows.  I like the look of bows that bend more in the handle I think.  I'll have to see how they look in pictures side-by-side.

Thanks everyone for getting this forum off to a good start!

even though I'm not into ELB:s that much, this is nice.

sorry for not staying in the subject, but a question to Loki: did you choose your nick by the bases of Viking mythology? they have one god named Loki and he was quite the troublemaker :D

Loki,

I meant, 'a couple days...starting now.'  I'll get to it.  I've been swamped with life lately and haven't been doing much for fun.  Soon.
