Post by: Lukasz Nawalny on February 25, 2011, 08:58:12 am
My new experiment.D/r longbow in egyptian angular style. 70 inch long , 60 lb at 28 inch. 3 inch reflex in rest 2 inch after unstrung. This is one piece of hickory heartwood - no glue in handle.Extreme high string tension even in low BH.I expect very high performance , I think this coulb be way to make record selfbow.Finished with shellac , brass arrow plate and handle details

Very nice Lukasz.  It does look like it would have a lot of string tension.  How is stability?

Very nice! I've been planning to make one very similar to that but lower draw weight and out of red oak.
Those are some nice lines and curves, very well done!

Very nice.  I really like the style.  The reflexed design is sweet.  The brass is a very nice touch.

love the shape of that bow, how do you think that design would work with a higher draw weight maybe 70-80? i would love to see that thing shoot ;D

thanks guys , a lot of people ask me - I am Saluki - Lukasz Nowotny.IM NOT LUKASZ NOWOTNY  ;) !!! Im Lukasz Nawalny , Im live in Europe , Poland, but even in my country many people have with this problem and make mistakes . Saluki comes from Czech Republic , Adam Karpowicz from Poland, Grozer from Hungary , not far away from Poland. In this region we have a lot of good bowyers, like in Brasil a lot of good soccer players  ;) Robustus , I have this same idea - I will make shorter version but with  small static recurve and sinew backing , this should be intresting

Nice looking bow.  This style does have high string tension and this is made even higher with a low brace height

Why hickory heartwood? I have been told to use sapwood.
Title: Re: angular selfbow
Post by: Lukasz Nawalny on February 28, 2011, 04:08:08 pm
In my opinion hickory heartwood is more elastic and better keep reflex on limbs , but  from white hickory similar bow is ofcourse also posible. This is about 26 inch draw length , my natural draw lenght , I have short arms . I have made 5,5 inch BH.
