Title: Side Quiver/Tomahawk Sling Set
Post by: 4est Trekker on March 26, 2011, 08:04:04 pm
Here's a set I just finished up.  The side quiver is a simple pattern of burgundy latigo with a wax finish.  The arrow bed and opening are lined with sheepskin.  The flaps are held down with brass Chicago screws and can screwed together to convert it to a quasi-back quiver.  The tomahawk sheath/sling is for a hawk I got in trade made by Tom McGinnis at Ozark Forge.  It's made from a farrier's rasp.  I cleaned up both the finish and lines considerably and gave it several soakings in a vinegar/lemon juice solution.  Thanks for looking!

Duplicating the pattern of the rasp fromthe hawk head onto the handle was a stroke of genius!  That pattern would transfer to the leather as well, I bet.

I love having a small servicable hawk at my side in the woods, even more than a knife.  I wonder about integrating the hawk sheath with the quiver.....hmmmm!

Beautiful work, very professional.  In fact it is so professional we may have to delete this post and ban you.  Hehehehe!

I would also suggest banishment from the forum, that just looks too good and makes everyone else's work look bad.   >:D

I love your work man! Thanks for sharing :)

4est, that is SAWEET!!!  Love that Hawk also!  I think attaching the hawk to the quiver would make it out of balance, and awkward, but a nice Little knife sheath on it, along with a little pouch for the flint and steel, would go very nicely. ;)  Very nice work.   8) 8)

JW, you are right about the hawk being even more useful than a knife.  With a quality made hawk, you can use it like a Alaskan Ulu knife, and chop, and scrape, and do a whole lot of things with it. ;)  A medium weight one would be ideal to carry.  Split pelvic bones, etc.  The list goes on. ;D 8)

I have a small hawk that I have used to butcher antelope.  From gutting the downed critter to trimming the steaks to go on the grill...just one knife sharp hawk.  The guys in camp gave me grief about it so I used it as the steak knife at the table, too!

Ever since then I have thought about having a smith bang out a spike hawk with two points that I can use with the other hawk as knife and fork!!!      >:D

Once again 4est you give us something to drool over. as has already been said the set up is gorgeous. I've seen alot of knives made from farriers rasps but never a hawk.
