I guess we need some ideas 1st.
Everyones pinetrees looked really good!!
Serrated Dalton would be a good one to follow up the pine tree i think.
The serrations are done the same way :)
-
Cool. 8)
-
Sounds good to me.
-
seeing as to how daltons are one of my fav styles to make
why not
any specific style of serated dalton you have in mind?
-
sounds good
-
Me like serrations!!! ;D
-
Shanon yours always look like they were machine cut
to dang perfect >:(
wish i could do them half as good as you can
-
Well I decided to get a start on the Dalton point and laid out four of my biggest flakes. Surprisingly I was able to get what I consider a decent Dalton for NC Rhyolite and my skill level. So I will go ahead and put it out here to start Aprils challenge. Can't wait to see all the great points to coming.

Good looking point, I'm still turkey hunting. :P
-
Nice looking Dalton there Lyman.....................Curt
-
Thanks for the response Piper and Mullet.
Mullet, I hear ya. NC turkey season comes in on April 9th. I am mutating into the "obsessed turkey hunter"each day. At least that's what my wife says. ::)
-
That's awesome Lyman...I don't think you could get a better rock/point type match up than a Hardaway Dalton and Rhyolite combo.
-
here is one i did last month.
-
Can you count that one if it's a month old ;D. Great point and like that rock color.
-
thats a wicked piece of rhyolite.
jesse that is gorgeous. perfect rock and work.
heres one from some raw pedernales. having a real tough time getting clean serrations with the ulna. they are sharp as hell i just cant em clean looking. 3 1/2" long 3/16" thick. all hammerstone percussion, thin with a moose billet and dressed with the ulna as always.

Beautiful point Jamie. I don't recall seeing that color of green before, I like it.
-
Nice looking point Lyman, gotta give it to anyone who like Rhyolite
-
I may have to get in on this one. I have been out of the loop for a good bit with my knapping, but as of late have my interests and time back.
Jamie, I read somewhere that some abo serrations where made with small flakes at 90 degrees?
-
tim i was just looking at some of the ones in overstreet and thats exactly how they look to be done
-
I've got a real big Kirk Serrated point I foundwith an impact break on the tip and broken stem that has some amazing Abo serrations that are 90dgs. I'll post some close ups tomorrow.
-
here is mine
Maddog314

Here is the pictures of the serrations on a big Kirk. They are 90dgs.
-
nc i think its mostly the lighting that made it green. it a greenish grey. that how most of my serrations look ed. i tried again with this novaculite one and did better except for creating a couple stacks.

My attempt with a piece of treated novaculite. Hope ya like.
-
wow great points guys
-
Scott, you are improving daily. 8)
I remember the first time you came and set at our tarp....You remember that? ;)
-
I am liking all the points.
Stringman, I like that point held up to the light, shows the profile very nicely.
-
Yeah, Tim I do. I gotta find a way to pay you back for that "tarp time" too! Gonna try to make it down to Marshall this summer, you gonna be there?
-
Scott, no worries on the payback, just seeing you progress with your abilities is more than enough payment.
I will most likely make Mojam, I have only missed a couple of them and it's only 1 1/2 hours from home. ;D
-
Got one done today. Of course, it's not nearly as good as any already posted, but I'm somewhat pleased with it. I'll have to get some pics up later since I left my camera at home.
-
made this one yesterday. i never make serrated points, it's hard to get em right. next time i'll space them out a bit more and try to make them more pointy
-
real nice. like the bands in the rock
-
that looks very good rwaterman!
Dont space them anymore thats very good, you can use a sharp bone or a nail notcher and make them sharp.
-
Here's attempt #1

I just thought it looked good in the cell pic you sent...that looks awesome. I wish I had time to try one....too much to do right now, maybe next weekend.
-
Looks good to me Jonathan...that's some good Rhyolite ;D
-
Looks good to me Jonathan...that's some good Rhyolite ;D
Thanks, Lyman. That Ryolite is from my super, top-secret stash. ;D
-
got some badges of honor with that point! nice job, looks lethal
-
Why is it that the ring finger always has a bandaid on it? I have cut that finger two times this week in the same place!
-
that finger usually ends up in the spot were most flakes detach from the bottom side of the bi face during thinning.
-
mines all scar tissue now. the flakes are afraid to touch it ;D
-
hmm i figured my ring finger always got cut because: the gods of flintknapping are trying to cut that wedding band off. they know that the honeydo list keeps me from knapping sometimes:)
-
Well I didn't post a pinetree last month so I put the dalton in one of my pine baskets
(http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk33/Bonepile/DSCN1382.jpg)
It's a keokuck ,put on some bluegrass this AM and beat it out
