Yep--long time ago--Yellville at the Water Creek Knappin. Can't remember who was the chief. Maybe Wesley Shipman or DC Waldorf. Was some of the most re known knappers of the time including the artistic Val Waldorf. You can bet I won't forget the CEREMONY! OOGA BOOGA forever! A/Ho Joe

It is a very powerful feeling to join the society. In ten years of Chiefing around six knap in's a year I would guess I have brought in 800 to 1000 new folks. It never gets old. Even introduced my 93 year old Grandmother so we could share the secret. They drove her to the circle in a Lincoln so she wouldn't fall and break a leg in the darkness. Good times! Ooogabooooga! Mike

A little knapping get together? Keep me filled in on the details, maybe I can get the wife to drop me off and she can go on down to Eville and pick me up on the way home. >:D Thanks for the invite, keep in touch. OOOGA BOOGA, dpg

Wow! Haven't thought about that in awhile :). I got oooga boooga'd at the Horseshoe Bend Knappers Guild knap-in in Weatherford, TX. Had to have been around 8 years ago. Ray Thorpe was chief and i believe Curtis Smith was asked to be coyote. Was late at night, dark and after a few frosty beverages i don't recall everything ::) :D.
-
I admit, I was afraid to find out what the "ooga booga" was... so I didn't go.

Well my 8 year old son and I joined the society at the classic. My son is very proud all of his friends want to know what it is about all he will say is ooooga boooga. I hope the other kids have kept the secret. My dad was afraid he said anything James Was in control of could be bad and I agree he was a good chief.
-
Eric, It was great to have you and Alax(?) there with us, both at the ooga booga and @ the spirit station. Great to meet you and your family. Oooga Booga, dpgratz
-
It was great to be in on bringing a few in at the Classic. Now next year we will probly not be able to have it at the Spirit station, just for safety. We will need to figure out a good spot.
-
BearG are you saying the spirit station ant safe, ??? :o I wondered what all the noise was about. :)

I had the distinct honor of being the first person to be oogaboogaed at twin oaks :) James Parker was the Chief, Bear was my spirit guide and of course Shannon was the coyote on my back ;) it was great to have the ceremony at the spirit station but I agree with bear, it might not work with very many more folks... Oogaaa Boooga!!!!
-
James told me he would be at the classic next year and the ooga booga was gonna be even better.
Can't wait! OOOOGA BOOOOGA
-
Where and how can you apply? I am interested. I have never heard of it before, but it sounds like my kind of place.
-
Got to be more of you out there.........Mike Smyth
Ooooogaaabooooooooggaaaaa
-
Can I oogabooga a group during an event here at ia jam?
-
John,
You'll need a chief, a coyota and a spirit guide that are already in the clan. ;) keep us posted brother...OOOGA BOOGA!! dp
-
You will want an ambulance near by just in case the secret get loose. Maybe a fire truck or two and permission from who ever is in charge of the event. In case of accidents ya know. A Chief to induct you is all you need to Chief and like he said you need a coyote and a spirit guide. If you have your own goat or a small sheep that is always a plus for Chief material. Good luck and good fun. Ooooooooogggabbbooooooggaa Chief Walking Deer

One of the best OOgabooga's in the knapping world will be at the Bois darc primitive skills gathering east of Greenfield Mo is a little less than two weeks out. This is your chance to meet at least ten Chiefs. They all come to the midwest as their Oogabooga ceremony's are said to be the best ones. Oogabooga Chief Walkingdeer aka Mike Smyth

The chief was Chief Fuzzy Balls (the late Bill Metcalf ) and others that I don't remember but I remember it was quite surprising to say the least. Some details are forgotten but the experience I will never forget.
