Title: BACKING A YEW BOARD BOW??
Post by: Easternarcher on April 10, 2012, 11:46:56 am
I see a supplier nearby has sawn1" and 2" thk. Western Yew Lumber(Taxus brevifolia is the technical term I guess).
Depending on the board whether quarter-sawn or flat sawn, how would it work to back that with saaaay hickory at 1/8"?
Would it be wise to find a quarter sawn piece to try this with?

Both will work fine, but you wont know till you go look at there stock..id rather take a nice clean flat sawn piece over a knotty so so grained 1/4 sawn piece....just find the best usable piece/pieces n youll be fine with a 1/8" hickory backing.
