Title: 1/2 Andice
Post by: Outbackbob48 on April 10, 2012, 06:31:35 pm
First I would like to thank Will for inspiring me to attempt a deep notched andice style point, I broke the first ear off at about the 1/2" deep mark so it actually was just a practice shot at the second notch, no pressure so of course it went fairly easy, Will, critique appreciated or any tips, and again thanks for the push. later Bob

Looks pretty good Bob! I think one thing that should help you out is to keep your notches wide by cleaning out your corners with a horseshoe nail notcher. Try not to let them taper as much as you did on your first try. Also the thinner you can make your preform the easier it is to get em real deep but I've found as long you keep your platform below center you can notch up to 1/4" thick points 1 1/4" deep. You just make your notches a little wider in relationship to your point. As for your ear blowing off.... You just have to remember to check where your edge is and never try to hit your punch above center. Do whatever it takes to keep it below center, if that means taking another flake from the same side you just did or filing the platform ALOT to get it below centerline. The main thing is dont give up. Once you do it successfully you'll be hooked ;) that's my 50cents. Hope it helps :)
