Here are a couple of photos of what I am using this year. The first one shows my workshop in back of the house. I usually have a minimum of four bows hung up here with at least 5 dozen arrows. My short target range is off to the right about 30 yards. When the leaves are down and I climb on the roof I can see 300 yards to the other end of the property. Yea your right, I can see them comming a long way off. The other photo shows the two bows I have been practicing with. The one on the right is an Osage self bow, 58#. the other is a 70# flat bow. The other photo shows this years stock of hunting arrows. They are purple heart footed Cedar. I'm ready. Now to find the critters.

Hey Cowboy. Like I said no rush on the jig. Actually if you take a dozen shafts, and set up the jig on a drill press table, I use a piece of aluminum angle clamped to the table to guide it, it only takes about an hour to grove them. You are then finished with the jig. Now comes the tedious part, filing the groves smooth etc. You can now make footed shafts at your leisure. Like I said I will do a how to when I get the jig back.

LJ I think one of the arrows I gave you is in that bunch. They fly real good out of that Osage bow.

Well it is 5:58 and I am going out to the ground blind and see what is up. Should be a nice day.

Thanks guys for the compliments. The building is a workshop but I do my bow and arrow stuff in the cellar. I have one of the unusual homes with a cellar in this region. The "Block house" as we call it has my machine shop, 14 inch lathe, milling machine, presses, welding equipment etc. I also do the long rifle building in there as well as knives etc. It is a nice outbuilding to have to "get away" and immerse yourself. Also the two back windows open onto the deer infested   ;D  back 40. Just kidding about the deer infestation. On my way out this morning I jumped two doe's munching on my clover. Man looks like I need to get out at 4:30 I guess. That 125 yards to the hunting grounds is a long haul.   ;)

Justin that big Bowie on the arrows is one I hafted for a friend in silver and burl wallnut. He had some Damascus blades and asked if I would do it for him on a swap for two other blades. Hey why not. Life is good, right Pappy.

Here's waht I got so far: 62" sinew backed hickory D, 3 26" long trade point mounted sourwood arrows with Eastern two fletch. My best shooting, hardest hitting, nicest looking set up I've ever shot (including the store bought bows arrows and points) :).

OK Sean, here ya go ;D. I was waitin on the arra's - finally got em done, shew!! This is all I have been able to muster thus far. Don't have a quiver - will just have to do like Jamie this year and have two in the hand and one on the string - course should only need one right?, yeah right. Will prolly use the hic bow - it packs a littel more punch. Wish I had an osage....

Pappy - you got more bows, arra's, quiver's than you can shake a stick at. Like that little bow, don't recall ever seeing that one, good luck huntin!
That's some nice artwork on the bow and arra's Jamie - what kind of string is that?

Thanks cowboy,I posted it last year sometime,It is a sweet little bow, took 2 deer with it last year
it handles good from a stand. The only problem was the sinew came up on the tip when I would get it wet so I trimmed the sinew back about 4 inches and put some horn tips on it so that should
take care of that problem.Very nice set up jamie, looks deadly. :)

Here's what I'm using. 50# white ash board bow, 2 shoot nutters, 5 trade points made with metal from VB, first 3 are mounted on cane from bob, last 2 are
homemade ash shafts, all are fletched with eastern turkey. And of course Dane's custom bow sock.

All right, I finally got the pictures, here they are. I'm shooting my Osage character bow, with a few modifications to it, some of you might have seen it at Mojam.
The arrow in the picture is the first I have made for this fall, it's my hog arrow  >:D. It weighs just under 600 grains, a ton for my 46 lb 24" draw bow! If I get close, though, it'll do the job better than a lighter one. The head is out of metal from VB, great stuff!

btw, after modification, the above mentioned bow (the same one I did the build-along for) is 58" long, 46lb@24" and shoots better than any of my other bows I've made yet.

1/2primitive,

Was looking at your set up and wondered what the silencer looking tuft of fur at the nock was for???

I just added it to go further towards silencing the bow, as I had a hog jump the string last year (even though I wasn't going to hit him anyway... :P....).
So I think from that experience I'm a bit overly cautious this year.  ::)

Here's my equipment for this year. It is a White Ash bow that pulls 62 pounds @ 28" with beaver fur silencers.  I have 2 nutter flu flu arrows for squirrels and rabbits.  I have 4 arrows with tradepoints made from bandsaw blades from VB.  The arrows are all made of red osier doqwood that was soaked in Watco oil with self nocs.  The trade points are tied on with sinew from my archery killed deer from last year.  This is my first year hunting with all traditional gear and am very excited.  I have been out one morning so far and had 2 bucks within 15 yards, but couldn't get a clear shot at the big one (a very nice 8 pointer).  Of course the little fork horn buck provided plenty of opportuities, but I just couldn't shoot him with the big one standing there.  So far it's been a great year.

It sure is fun seeing everyone elses hunting gear.

Love the grain in that Ash (on belly side) purty bow :). Looks like all you need is a target.
