Title: A Day with Big Medicine
Post by: The Singing Bowyer on September 19, 2007, 12:48:02 pm
Pappy asked me to post a pic of my greatest shooting day, so here ya go.....

I was using a snakey piece of black locust I named "Big Medicine"--66" long, 62# at 27 inches. I had been missing them all week with a lower pound osage bow I call "Pappy's Osage", since he gave me one his prime staves. The squirrels were staying up high, and I just needed a little more "umph" to get up there.

I probably saw 30 or more squirrels that day, and had plenty of shot opportunities, and a whole lot more arrows than you see left in the quiver...but I ain't complaining!

That's really good shooting Chad...lot of folks don't have that kind of luck with a shotgun. You ought to be well prepared to harvest some venison this year! ;)

The area I hunted on was as good as a golf course..... It is a few hundred acres owned by the airport in Nashville. It probably hasn't been touched by a timber company in 80 years, and has some of the biggest trees I have seen anywhere in TN. I have seen as many as five squirrels in one tree.

Pappy, I expect Ron to hammer a P&Y Saturday to put us ahead... He has to make up for his shooting performance. :D

I plan on using "Pappys Osage" for deer, but if I miss one, I may just have to bring out "Big Medicine"...

I had an array of points, but I mostly just used a regular rounded blunt and/or the magnus blunt with the bleeder blade. For me it is best to use whatever is cheapest when i am shooting up into the trees...
