Title: Fresh Venison - new pics
Post by: DQ on October 15, 2012, 01:18:42 pm
Got this doe with a 64", 57# bamboo backed hickory bow I made last summer.  I used a self nocked cedar arrow with a steel broadhead I made from a saw blade.  Fresh venison.  Oh, yeah!

Atta boy, Dairy Queen!  That's a lovely looking doe.  The bow is pretty dang good looking too.  All handmade equipment, can't get much better than that.

Now, tell the story, tell the story!

Not much of a story, J-dub.  Close encounter, well shot arrow, dead deer.  Here is my set up and hand made broadhead. Thanks for your replies, everyone.

Wow, fancypants ferrules on your homemade broadheads.  You trying to make the rest of us look bad?   >:D

Nice looking work, thanks for sharing.  Those arrows look a lot like some that I used to shoot, simple and elegant.  And obviously effective, ask the doe if she disagrees.

Congrats on your successful hunt with "self" equipment.I'd sure like to see how you built your ferrules for your broadheads. They look nice, maybe a build-a-long in the future?  God Bless

There's no mystery to those ferrules, PeteC.  They are ground down 125 grain field points.  The blades are cut from an old 8 inch skill saw blade.  My finished broadheads weigh 160 grains.  Fun to make, deadly to use.

I think there a more than just a few of us that would love to see a build-along on those broadheads!

Congrats on the deer and I nominate you for the broadhead build along so we can see how you do such a fine job on them.   Danny
