Wytch elm. 191 cm. Brown leather dye. 65#-28. B-50. Rare viking longbow. Sold to a friend of mine, the skipper on the replica "Osebergskipet" build in Tønsberg Norway and finished in summer 2012.

:D Sidenock at the upper limb and no nock at the other. Just a knot. :-) Viking style. These bows were build in yew and elm. The original in yew was a real monster. 140#. 40/33mm in cross section. Thats a fat bow. :-)

That's awesome. I have never seen one just like it. Beautiful wood.

Is that the bow type that doubled as a ski pole hence the strange nock or am I thinking of the laminate bow that had spruce on the belly and birch on the back.
Old Scandinavian bows are very interesting.

Thats not the same bow. You are thinking about a laminate bow which belongs to the old native norwegians. "samene" The people with the "reindeers" and the wood in this bows were birch and pine.
That kind of bows were common in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. "Kviljo" has made those bows.:-)
The "Haithabu" bow is from Denmark/northern Germany. It's datet to the 8. century.
Thank you for pleasent comments.
