I finally did it! my first harvest with my own equipment. good god it was neat. When i got him in my hands i let out a war whoop to let my brother know i had success. After the kill, i took out a baggie of shavings i saved from scraping the bow to final tiller, and started a fire with them. Then i roasted one of the hind legs on a stick over the fire! It was soo good. what a hoot.

Good Job! Now you are ready to tackle something bigger... ;D

Good job - that look on your face says it all :). Now for bigger game, is it legal to hunt geese with a bow?

haha, yes cowboy it is. thanks for reminding me. you ready on your end? i'll try and get crackin on mine. thanks guys, i am very proud, and you better believe it tasted good. a little squerril leg always makes me hungry for more ;D

You bet ;D. I was gonna try dove huntin with mine - and was armed and dangerous but none of them came close. I'm gettin to the point that if ANYTHING presents me with a target - it's goin down ;D. Funny while I was still huntin throught the woods, several squirrels came down to bury acorns and such - mere feet from me. I just watched em do thier thing stayed quiet - not wanting to scare off anything bigger. Squirrels beware from now on.

Very cool ,nice shot.

right now small game is all there is, deer season starts for us new yorkians this comming saturday. The part that was killing me was all of the squerrils i have missed within 20 yards were all easily kill shots on deer sized game. now i just have to rememeber to aim small and not lose my head to harvest my first deer with primitive equipment. when i first started with the recurve i missed the first 5 or 6 because i was so exceioted about the idea of doing it with traditional equipment. funny thing is, as soon as i got one, shooting a deer with the recurve became easier than with a compound becauise i didn't have to think. My sucess rate went way up. so now i just have to forget i made the bow myself for about a half second as a i shoot and i oughta be just fine :} celebrate after right?! ;D

Dude, that is freakin' awesome! My very first kill with my handmade wooden bow and stone tipped arrow was also a squirrel. It took me 3 months to get one! Congrats man, I don't care what anyone says, that is truly a trophy!
