Post by: oldhippy on August 09, 2013, 09:44:46 pm
All righty, I will let this thread go for a week from today and all that want to participate sign up Let us know what the specs are for the arrow that you want, length, spine, fletching and so forth. Next Friday at 11:59pm I will go to the cross roads with a dead black cat and select pairs of names. Then I will contact the people via pm. Good luck.

I'm in.  I normally shoot around a 50 lb bow, 28" arrow, but I'll be happy with what ever somebody wants to make  ;)

I'm in I'll be happy with whatever they make.

50-55#, or 55-60# or what ever. I don't have a spine checker either. I just make them to shoot.

I would like to do this if I may. Would like to have something primitive. If I can hunt with it cool, if not it will be a wallhanger. I'm not picky would be proud just to be a part of this. I shoot a osage longbow bout 42 to 45 pounds.

I'm in, send me whatever ya make. Never spined an arrow in my life, either. If I know the bow weight can probably make something that will be passable,eh?

I'm in. Shoot 45-55# bows with a 27" arrow, but not concerned about the specs as whatever I get will likely be saved
to admire rather than shoot. Although I may want to use it for a shot or two to take a deer to honor the arrow maker.
I'll be making a shoot shaft with turkey feathers, self nock and sinew wrap with a stone point by someone else since I
don't knap.

Post by: turtle on August 10, 2013, 12:08:12 am
Im in. Most of my bows are around 50# and my draw length is 27" but anything someone makes is fine.

Who do we send our adress to and what is the ship by date?

Legal hunting width in ohio is 3/4". Any material, barbs dont matter.

Count me in.  50 pounds roughly and at least 29 inches long.

Count me in. I'll take any arrow anyone makes. I usualy shoot between 50# and 60# so I will make an arrow for that. I don't spine arrows either. If they shoot well, I shoot them.  ;D

Im in too, I shoot from 40 to 50# I have a 28" draw.  I dont care what I get, more than likely I will hang it on the wall but I may try to bloody it first.

Oooops....... Never read past the first post. I found it farther down. I'm in. I generally shoot about 28-29 inch arrow for about a 50 lb bow. I live up in Saskatchewan, Canada
Title: Re: Sign up for arrow exchange

Im in. 28.5", 50-55 is what I shoot. I will GLADLY accept any arrow a guy wants to give me. New , old, bloody or the sort. Just be sure its signed and dated.

Steve do you want our addresses PM'ed? Are we trying to get this done before most archery seasons open? Id say 2 weeks or more is plen ty of time to make or ship an arrow.

Title: Re: Sign up for arrow exchange
Post by: artcher1 on August 10, 2013, 10:17:40 am
So be it............right/left handed shoot arrow, left/right wing fletched (turkey or goose), wrapped not glued of course, with a trad hunting point of 45-50# 28" long. Wait a minute, that sounds like what I'll be sending. Seriously though, I would prefer something with  a little history if possible.

You can list me as an alternate also incase someone doesn't get their arrow. Probably going to happen..........Art B

I'm in too. I shoot 55-60's, 11/32's but you can send whatever. I have 40-45's 50-55's 55-60's, 11/32's to make some one. I have a few river cane also. Are we doing field points, broad heads, blunts? I also have plenty of older arrows I've made a set of 6 or 12 and I broke or loss most of the set so I throw in a bow and start on a new set. BDan

Add me to the list. I shoot 40-55# with arrow length of 29 1/2" or longer. The one I send will be self nock either wood/ cane or bamboo wrapped w/sinew, probably stripped turkey fletched, and trade point.

I'm definitely in!!!  ;D  I shoot from 55#'s - 75#'s. I prefer to use my 75# r/d for hunting. Whatever I'm sent is fine with me. I do prefer obsidian tips though.

I think it should be up to the sender to decide what type of arrow to send.  Personally I have a ton of artifacts and my recipient will likely get an arrow with a point that is hundreds of years old knapped by probably a Caddo, Osage, Quapaw, or Ouachita Native American.  It will be fletched with turkey or goose feathers wrapped with sinew on a split Hickory shaft.  Depending on how long we have I may even try to work it with stone tools.

OK, Hunting season starts in about a month around these parts. I think that three weeks will be long enough to make an arrow and get it shipped. In these parts hunting season begins the middle of Sept. and some people would like to carry their exchange arrow with them. I will leave the list up till next Friday or Saturday morning then write down every ones name and throw it in a hat and pull out pairs. Don't know if you guys want to know who you will be exchanging with or if you would rather be surprised. Let me know how you want to do thisand we will go with what the majority wants.
Also need to know what the legal width is for hunting in your state but I think that most states the legal width is 7/8 except Kansas which I believe is 3/4.
   Peace all, Hippy

I am in...

ill probably go with a BL shaft, goose fletches, and maybe a ground shell point. if not ground shell... knapped glass. If i have to knap it, I doubt it will be wide enough to hunt with.

As to what I want- a shootable (preferably broadheaded) arrow for a #65@28 oak longbow.

In Ohio legal width is 3/4" , at least 2 cutting edges. Any material.

I like surprises. :)

Easy way to make it so everyone has a different person and no one knows who has their name is to put the names in a list and the first person on the list makes an arrow for the next one down until you get to the bottom of the list and they make one for the person on the top of the list.

shouldn't it be up to the builder as to what they want to make? otherwise it seems to me more like custom order arrow. I will be greatful to have a hand made arrow from someone else. that is just my 2 cents hope i don't upset anyone for saying that.

Yes. I think material and style is up to the builder. But i would like to send an arrow that could be actually used by the recipient. Wether they choose to use it or not is up to them.

I'm in.  I am currently making up some new arrows for a Joe Don Jones bow I got last weekend.  What I get doesn't matter.  All my shafts are commercial made, (wood) I just put every thing together.  My shafts are spined either 45-50 or 65-70.  Just need to know a ship by date.

I shoot an arrow about 29" 45# bow, if hunting blade is used, it can be made of anything 7/8" wide. Ed
