Title: arrow exchange(PICS ADDED)
Post by: bowtarist on September 10, 2013, 08:55:30 am
I know I've been pretty quiet about this, but my arrows are done and I hope to ship before Friday.  I would still like to sign them, but that should be the easy part.  I built arrows all weekend on any time I could find.  Took some pics last night, but my dang ol' dial up is not working again.  I'll post again when I ship.  Have a gooder, dpg

Okay, it's rainin like crazy and the dial-up decides to work.  Go figure.

Here's some pics, the three are osier, hornstone and duplex/44 casing blunt, self collected deer sinew, walnut hull stain, turkey secondaries, pitch on one, faux pitch on two, sealed with pitch varnish, all came from Indiana, so these here are some Hoosier arrows.  Hope ya like em, two are going to the exchange, the other I will hunt with.  The fourth is hazle, burlington point and all the rest as above.

Thanks for lookin!! dpgratz

Real nice arrows and points Derik. I'm a fan of the turkey secondaries for a two fletch and you made them look good on those arrows. Good hunting to you and whoever gets the other two.

Thanks Guys, means a lot to me.  Tracy made the bigger point and I've just now got it hafted, that is my only Fairchild point though.  ;)

Dan, do you like the white point or the smaller hornstone?  I used the opposite side feather splits from one of the other arrows for the shorter arrow.

I said I sealed them w/ pine varnish, I sealed the sinew w/ that, the arrows are sealed with what I call my "Bubby wax", bees wax and mineral oil.  If you see any reddish "crestings", they are done with poke berry dye my boy made last year.

I don't know if you can see them or not, but the feathers were "burned" on the quill side using a technique I read about in an old PA in an article about a German archery get together.  I took more pics of that if anyone is interested in seeing them or hearing about it.  No grinding needed.

Thanks again, dp

I like the small white point. But as we know it all depends how well it shoots!
