He better lock that thing up or he might just find it missing, and I wouldn't have anything to do with it ::) >:D

Whoa!! Got light headed there for a minute. Too many curves . . .now I'm getting car sick sitting at my desk. That is nice!!! ;D
-
That's a nice one. I got one similar but not as nice.
-
I've seen some staves in person that have been pretty wonky, but never seen anything like that. I wonder, does it split out like that, or does it split relatively straight and then warp with drying?

I had two of those old fence posts. I gave one to Pat and still have the other one. Haven't worked on it since last years classic. I might bring it back this year and do a little more work on it.
-
Good to hear your taking your time turtle ;) ..wonder if pat has touched his yet...prob to scared to get bit
@buckeyeguy....and you do know what to do with it :P ::) keep dreaming pal
Bobs coming over today after work,so I'll get to see this in person later....love seeing a true snake in person.....don't see em much. Maybe one every year or two pops up like this

Doggone that is a snakey joker.
-
I love snakey stuff! That looks like a killer right there!
Your right Chris. I thought that's the one from the classic. Hmm...
-
Wow. Osage?
-
I just got home from blackhawk . Took this stave down to show him . He loved it. But he loved it even more when I gave him the sister stave and one more stave from the same tree . Who know I may never make a bow out of this stave . But it will be cool to look at as a stave. Yeah right ....
-
Bring that thing to the classic! I got a big canebrake skin that will look good on it.
-
I was looking at the one you gave me last year at the Classic just the other day, turtle. I haven't messed with it yet. I need to do as you were doing at the Classic last year and see what's under all those wrinkles and weather checks. Looking forward to seeing where this snake takes you. ;)
-
Bet if you stretched that out you would have a 92incher!
-
That is a nice one. :o :o
-
Now that's a beauty, got to love that and will be quite a challenging build. :)
Pappy

This stuffs wet yet and needs to dry n season...I don't wanna risk carrying it around in a vehicle n such n have it check on me...thanks for the offer Howard :)
-
Wow. Osage?
Yup!!! ;)
-
Good thoughts Chris, I can tell you from experience that them kind of staves need to be well seasoned,[not just dry]very easy for them to rupture if you try any bending or straightening on them until they are seasoned. Very cool piece of wood.

Yuppers pappy...let em sit,n take it easy on em...
Not sure if the one on the right will make it tho? It has that brittle punky brown osage all along one side of it..and I have had bad luck with that in osage ??? There might be enough healthy stuff there once I get further down in rings, but it seemed to get worse the further I got under the bark n sap..so who knows till I go down more? ??? Looks like it might go away and have a chance maybe as the color changes back to normal from viewing the end cut,but that doesn't mean its lime that further down the stave tho..
-
How long do you plan on letting those season? I bet its not as long as mine and pats have been seasoned. >:D
-
Steve, I think you said that the snaky stave you gave me had just come out of the ground a day or 2 before you gave it to me. At some point I'll start slowly removing and bad wood and see what is inside. Mine might be a bow by next years Classic but that is just a maybe. ;D

-
I'm looking forward to seeing what it will let me do. ;)

I bought this one as a single billet and then I did a split and splice. Not as fancy as those but it should do the job
