I just finished up this osage bow with a couple of knot holes in it. The stave was cut in the early 90's. It's for the guy who hooked me up with the bunch of old staves that I had tried to track down but gave up on. I picked out the stave that would make the nicest bow for him. He is a traditional shooter but I think he mostly uses recurves. I asked him if he would rather have a target bow or a hunting bow and he chose a hunting bow. Hopefully he is able to take a deer with it this fall. The bow is 66" long and 50# & 28". I could only get it back to 26" in the full draw picture (short arms). I wanted to flip the tips but a few pin knots on one end made me change my mind. There was the start of another knot hole in the arrow pass but it didn't go all the way through the bow. It is finished with 6 coats of low gloss tung oil.

I'm pretty sure he liked it. He was texting me during the day saying how well he was shooting it. That was a tough one to let go but I know its got a good home and it will see some time in the woods this fall. I hope to see a picture of it laying across a deer in a month or so.
-
Got to hold this bow today and Clint did a fantastic job all around on it! The gentleman was truly shocked and appreciative with the quality of this bow. Great work and gesture!

Just saw this one - awesome bow! Great work as usual Clint. Your finishing work is always inspiring. I have been away from the shop for the last few months with a shoulder injury, but your post just hit a nerve and prompted me to get back out there and start making some yellow shavings. :)
-
Glad to hear your getting back on the shaving horse Howard.
-
That's a classic looking bow. Beautiful work. I bet it shoots an arrow with authority. I'm liking the hour glass look.
Cipriano

Thanks Cipriano. It does shoot a pretty hard arrow.

Now that is nice.
-
nice work...i agree with all the above....never made a bow with holes in myself...have to try one day!!!

Thanks yeti. Go for it Dragonman. Just follow the grain around the knot. The wood will show you where to go with the layout.
