I'm making the old style broad heads with furrels. Gen 1 came out way too heavy.
I'm looking for thin wall 3/8" od tubing and some of the wide flat metal banding material. Anybody have access to this? It is probably free piled up on a pile of pallets somewhere.
just not close to me.

Hi Prarie Bowyer. I have some band saw blade that is an inch wide after the teeth are removed. Makes great points. Ed

I have found a good source to be places that sell very large truck tires. Often they have banding material that makes nice broadheads. I have several of these in my quiver. I like to make them single bevel tanto points after Dr. Ashby's research. These bands are just the right thickness for this point.

Blades are on the way. Ed

Recieved. Is that from a band mill ? that is a huge blade!
-
Glad you got it. Yes that's from a mill and that's the little one they use lol. They make good points.
Im going to try a knife out of it. Let me know if you need any more. Have a great weekend. Ed

How thick was that blade? I work as a cnc machinist and there are lots of saw blades broken about. 040 thick which seems thin to me, used for cutting metal.
-
Sleek, I use band saw blades that thin for trade points. The metal is thin but very tough. They cut stainless with them at work. I put the shaft of a nail behind the piont in a cane arrow to add weight.
-
Awesome, do they harden well? Just had my boss give me a 12' one...
-
Sleek I don't know who thick I. Thousands but I'd say about 1/16" thick. They make pretty nice points imho. As for hardening, I don't know much of anything there.
PS: I have more if anyone wants any. Ed

If your just giving some away I'd take some O:)
Sleek, with it being a saw blade it is usually already hardened. I wouldn't fuss with it.
-
Have you looked at the metal bands on an old wooden water/whiskey barrel? They seem to be everywhere.
-
look at my cabinet scraper trade that stainless steel might be perfect for what you're looking for

Blafair2, I do like getting packages in the mail but if you need some of this blade and don't have antthing to trade that's ok too. What is your mailing address? I'll drop some in the mail. Ed
