I posted some spears I made in the flintknapping section a couple days ago and tonight I actually killed a 130lb sow with one ! I have a friend with a large orange grove that is over run with fat hogs eatin all those oranges. He has a dog we let loose till we heard it baying up the pig. We found the dog and pig facing off and doin the dance, but after getting in close one thrust is all it took. The point entered the pig and it immediately spun around bending the spear almost breaking the mulberry shaft. You can see from the pic the spear shaft is still bent ! Next time I'm using oak on these tough SOB's ! The point didnt sustain a bit of damage it performed flawlessly. This hunt was planned for a while and I'm so glad it all came together and the equipment worked well.
Yall be easy I'll be eating pulled pork sliders like they are going out of style...

Totally awesome!!!!

Dang dude, you're an animal! Congrats on the hog. Now you need to go get one with your bow and arrow.
-
Damn Elijah. That's rad
-
it has all been said! Way to go!

great !
you made your stuff, declared your prey and actually you get it! Awesome !!

well i doubt that all neolithic weapons could compare to Elijah's stuff.
He still has to show us his CNC knapper :D

Ya hooooo

Hey Elijah, I'd bet that Australian Pine Saplings would make supremely tough spear shafts.
-
Too cool! Josh

Well done!

Love the follow up to the pic posts. Great job buddy. I was looking forward to this one.
-
Cool! And congratulations. I couldn't answer your text when you sent it, I was busy sticking a Coyote with the Kodiak. The good thing about orange grove hogs is they are wormed and marinated. I hunt a friends Sun Sweet tangerine grove, now those hogs are tasty.
-
Pretty neat. Now to do it without the dogs
-
Good job brother.i bet that was a rush.
-
That's so kewl ... but, you're NUTS! :o
-
That point held up great. How much force did it take to drive it in that hog? More than you expected? Less than you expected? Either way its awesome that you got to test your work on the real deal!

That's what I was thinking I know they grow straight too I think that's gonna be worth a try ! Thanks man

I was actually surprised how much force it took when I hit the pig it pushed it for a split second before breaking skin, as soon as it did though it stuck in the chest cavity and didn't want to come out even as the hog tried spinning around. This point was kinda wide I think in the future I'm gonna make a longer point that tapers slower and has a very needle tip.

That's what I told him, Marc. My fourteen year old Grandson and his friends catch them alive with Bay dogs.
-
Next I'm gonna set up a spring snare and try and get one that way. I'll dispatch it with a stone knife
-
:)
-
I guess atlatl and thrown spear is not practical?
-
Way to go Elijah.
-
Marc; I know a couple of people that have got them with an atlatl.
-
Elijah , that is beyond BAD ASS ABU. If we had them up here I would be worthless , as well as great at stiching myself and the cur dogs back together. Congrats.
-
great !

Kinda like Babe Ruth pointing his bat at the section of the stands where he is gonna send the next pitch...
-
Yipes, don't want you after me, very well done. :)
