At Marshall this past spring Mr. Chicago kid aka paulsemp gifted me a Osage stave then asked me if I'd do a swap with him (which sent me to panic mode since I've never done one and only made 4 bows so far)
I decided to make my first short bendy handle bow with the stave, at Elm hall Paul offered some guidance as I was working on the bow and I got the idea that it would be a cool bow for him since he gave me the osage, some help, and it fit his specs.
So I finished it up and sent it off....I know Paul is super busy so I thought I'd post it.
53" 45@26, cow horn tips, two tone rit dye job with alcohol drip, cork handle build up, leather grip, some muskrat belly fur silencers, and a ultra cam 8 strand string. :o
Named it "no excuses" cause if you've ever shot with Paul you'll hear that!
Hope ya like it Paul! I had a tough time sending down to the land of pavement, traffic and deep dish pizza! Now I must build me one, that I can draw to 29" >:D
Some pics of number 5....

-
Tiller looks spot on. Real nice bendy.
-
That is a very nice bow. You did good
-
I really like the dye job. Is the alcohol drip just as it sounds, dye it and then drip alcohol on it to blend/smear it?
-
I don't know..ya prob should shave about 15 pounds off of it so he can pull it back :P ::)
Seriously tho nice job drew ;)
-
That's a beauty. I almost never make bend in the handle bows, but I sure do love the way they look at full draw.
-
I got a pic from my wife while I was at work of a tube from drew. I truly wasn't expecting this. I love every thing about this one. Unfortunately I just haven't had a lot of time to shoot it a lot and take pics for all you guys. Thank you for posting drew and I promise I'll get some posted soon. Thanks again drew!

Whether you've made four bows or four hundred bows, that's a fine job you did on this one. Great job of finishing too. You should be proud.

Heck of a job on that one Drew. Turned out great! Now if only we could find a way to drag Paul out of the concrete jungle and into the woods next fall...

Nice work Drew!

That thing looks awesome, great job man.
-
I'd like to add the only reason why I started saying "no excuses" is because I've shot too many rounds with Chris aka "Pearl drums". I am sure plenty of you on here reading this get my drift >:D
-
Beautiful job, love the finish work and tiller is dead nuts. :)
Pappy
-
Nice looking bow. Good job Drew.
-
Sweet short one. That's for sure!! ;)
-
Wow, thanks everyone!
DC- yes stain it with rit dye, let it dry then drip some alcohol on it...I used a Qtip to make some patterns within the drips and blend the brown into the black. Cody's flute (missile master) was the inspiration for the dye job.
Chris, ya I was wondering if it was too heavy and the draw too long! >:D
Danny boy, yup we're dragging him bow hunting in Grayling next fall- NO EXCUSES!
-
Wow, nice all around! that tiller is great, also your dye job. very impressive
-
Really like thisone!
-
Nice looking bow Drew. I like the dye job.
-
Thanks guys! I wasn't sure on the dye job but I just went with it...I really liked the way it turned out especially outside in the natural light, kinda hard to photograph though.
This bow was almost firewood at one point, I over cut a tip and pretty much messed it up but was able to save it (in my opinion).
I had fun building this one, guess I got lucky on the tiller.
-
Nice bow, Coyote. Did you back the bow? I'm thinking not.
Russ
-
Only backed with air ;D
