Designed this bow off of one I made several years ago that I thought I could improve upon. I made it from a larger bow that I stopped working on because it took too much set early in the build, probably because of moisture. This one turned out 50#@28" and 58" ntn with about 1/2" of set. It was fun to make a successful bow out of what I originally considered a failure. :) Not too often I see side nocks so I added a few extra pics of them.

Great time to work hickory up here right now doc, our place is under 20%. Slick stick.
-
really nice, clean essential bow
I like it alot
.... and should you loose all your arrows you can always unstrung it and use as a spear ;)
-
Nice work on that stick. I love all of it. Tips, front profile, and bend
I just tried my hand at a side nock last night very similar to yours. Funny to see one this morning on here. Nice work again.

Cool. Gotta feel good to make something that nice out of something you thought was a failure. This inspires me to consider going back to the discard pile and see what I can do. Nice work. Like those knocks and the bend too.

I really like that design. Very nice!
-
Cool profile on that one.
-
I bet the thin tips really send an arrow. Nice looking bow.
-
nice bow, i like the one sided tips!

Wow! Thanks for the comments everybody! :) I really appreciate it. The nocks are bone. I like using it because it works well and is far harder than the wood. I actually had the string split down the side of the nock the first time I got it strung up. Luckily I was able to super glue it into place and haven't had any problems since. Width at the fades is 1.5" wide and tapers to 1 3/8" mid limb. Even though it took some set it definitely feels stout at brace.

I bet you didn't need any coffee to wake you up after that!
-
That looks like a picture of tasteful simplicity and efficiency to me......very nice work.

Love me some side knocks on a bendy bow. That thing is what I call utilitarian. Nice bow!
-
Cool looking bow and nice bend. Would love to see it drawn by hand
-
I like it bud. Very much your style too...
-
Cool bendy, did you heat treat the belly?
-
I love everything about this bow!
-
Sweetness 8)

Hard to imagine a 58" hickory drawn to 28 not taking some set, let alone just 1/2 inch. Looks great. I had a hickory split at the nock once too and was able to save it. Never made a bow without overlays since.
-
Very nice..

Looks good man, nice and simple.

I like the bow, and I've been wondering lately about side nocks. Is there a purpose for the side nocks besides the coolness factor? Such as does it let you make more narrow limb tips? Do you put top and bottom nocks on the same side of the bow or opposite?

Typically they are placed on opposite sides to align the string. Side nocks are easier to make and don't require fancy glues. I believe that it is easier to string a bow with side nocks and they are more durable. There is a reason why this style of bow is the standard for Eastern tribal culture.
