I've been asked a few times what my favorite style bow is. There are so many good styles that all shoot different. Imposable to pick one, but this style is at the top of my list. It may not shoot quite as fast as a osage or yew..... longer bow, but has very little stack and a very smooth draw.
The bow is 49" and has a 46# draw at 25". I usually make these bows shorter for 25" draw but want this one to last a long while. I;m sure the bow would shoot a little faster with another " or two of draw, but still shoots a 9.13 gpp arrow over 150fps.(149.5 average). It is made with Utah juniper with 5 layers of elk sinew. The final layer was coated with soaproot glue. String is 3 ply sinew with a otter fur silencer wrap. nocks are sinew hook nocks. Handle is deer rawhide. In all the bow weighs only 9.5 ounces. 4" unstrung reflex.

Your work is stellar indeed!if you ever come to canada look me up!

Killer bow Chuck. I love sinew backed bows and I may have to try this juniper thing sometime.
-
Sweet!
-
Nice work
-
Sweet reminds me of a miwok bow
-
Another beautiful bow Chuck, one of my favorites as well. How wide are the limbs?
-
Very nice! Can't wait to get my juniper stave.
-
Thanks. Falcon 1 7/16". Bubby, yes made exactly like a Miwok bow except they have no record of using juniper. However their neighbors the Western Mono Paiute also living in Yosemite area made these same lenticular cross section, hook nock bows of juniper. So I could call this a Western Mono style bow

Beautiful as usual. One day I will have one as beautiful and functional.
-
Beauty bow chuck, I love the curves on it. Looks like a fun bow to shoot
-
That sure is a sweet looking bow there Chuck. Looks very authentic as always. Great job
-
Chuck, do you weigh your dry sinew before applying or do you have some sort of formula you use?
-
I always weigh sinew on hornbows to have exactly the same on both limbs. Those bows are 50% sinew and the bend will not match if the amount of sinew is not the same. I think I did weigh sinew on this one. for bows that are less than 1/4 sinew I just eye it out.

Another beauty chuck

Awesome looking bow Chuck. I really like that style of bow.
-
Very sweet bow!!! Nice work.
-
Thats another nice replica bow from you Chuck. I like how your bows are so pure and honest in material and form, inspirational work.
-
Very beautiful bow, Chuck! Your sinew job is steller! You said that was a 3ply sinew string. Could you please explain your string process some. I have plenty of sinew on hand and a nice little sinew bow in progress that I wouldn't mind trying that on. Patrick

You have gone to great lengths to make a bow like this true to form. I am really impressed.
-
I've been looking at this bow a lot. Really, really like the way it looks.

Thank you all. Patrick, I think for me 3 ply sinew strings are the easiest and strong enough for 1000-2000 shots, yet narrow enough for a fast arrow. I use backstrap. not pounded, just teased apart and brushed to a fine silk sized thread. I start out with a thicker bunch(1/3) size of string, then add a few threads whenever it starts to narrow a little. Do a pretty tight twist a little longer than 3x the finished string. Then fold it in 3. It will start to reverse twist it self. I twist it tight then hang it with a weight braced so it does not untwist.

Awesome bow chuck.

Really nice looking at full draw. That thing quite the beauty. Funny when the word 'cute' comes to mind for a bow.
