Wow those are so pretty. How sharp does coral get?
those are so pretty i would love to get my hands on some.
-
David, Sharp enough to kill Mastodons and Mammoths.
-
man those points and knives were sweet. i bet they could take down a mastadon, jeesh
-
There is none left in Florida. All we find now is bones and teeth. ;D
-
aw man. i bet they'd be fun to hunt. :D
-
Impressive, maybe they should use those in the voting booths. They are sharp enough to remove any hanging shads. ;D Justin
-
Cool! I didn't know ZZ Top was into that kind of stuff ;D!!! (last picture)
-
Nice photos, recognize few of the foks..bob
-
is coral hard to knap?
Is there any source where i could get some?
Btw i can knap again i just need to wear gloves and i cant do it when im home alone.

-
yeah it was a good show, i wish i could have stayed longer, lot of stuff goin on. you had some real nice stuff hangin around mullet - Ryan
-
The ZZ top boys are some of the knapping cowboys from down south. Ryan what time were you there? David ,there is a lot of Coral for sale on Eb&*. It's not cheap and if it's not heat treated, it's not for beginners.
-
Pretty cool Eddie. What is all that green stuff you have on the ground. And where is every bodys coveralls and coats? Kenneth
-
Kenneth, This is that wonderful State that doesn't have anything white but beach sand this time of year. ;D
-
i was there about noon, i stopped and said hi
-
BEAUTIFUL stuff! those knives were exceptional .. thanks for sharing ... Mike A/ho
-
Cool pics, Eddie. I've got to try to make it down to one of those Florida knapins next year- if nothing else, just to get thawed out for a while.
-
Great pics. thanks for sharing. :)
-
Mr. Dingleberry, You are welcome. ;D
-
i love that coral. it is soo pretty
-
Cool pic's Eddie - makes me wish all I had to do was travel around making bows and arras for a living ;D.
-
I know what you mean Paul. But I do look forward to doing that when I don't have to worry about paying the bills doing it.
-
Ditto to Jamie and Dingleberry!
-
David W: Glad to see you're back in the game. Be careful and have fun.
Mullet: Thanks for sharing. Are all of the colorful points made from coral?
ZZ Top: Sharp dressed Man... ;D
Otoe
-
Oh well, Tried to post those last 4 pictures and it still wouldn't work. Otoe, The points in the first cases and the pile on the ground by Claude and the scorpion are coral. The swirly colored ones were made from a chert in Tenn., I forgot the name, but they were nice looking.

-
I hear ya Pat! I'd like to have a bucket full of that junk ;D.
-
Cowboy, That's the way his front yard looks. Next time I go over I'll take a picture.
-
Hehheheh ;D, sounds good Eddie - I'd like to see it! When I get home tommorow I'm gonna finish up this bow, sit down and start knappin. Will be a good stress reliever :D.
-
great pics mullet. I was there saturday. The ZZ guy behind claud is an old friend of my fathers. It was a great time and I finally picked up some tools and got some pointers from him. I will definately be back next year. Hopefully there are other Knap ins before. Well Im going back out to the shop to try and break some more rock. Noah
-
We've had plenty of rain this past week, so our Burn Ban has been lifted. Hopefully I'll be able to cook some rocks this weekend. I tired working it raw and man that Texas stuff is hard as a rock. ??? I did get one point working pretty nice (for me the complete novice) and while trying to thin it, SNAP. :'(
On a similar sad note, the obsidian knife preform that I got from Missouri Trading Company broke in two when my tool box came open when I picket it up and the lid was not secured. :'( . Oh well, now I have two arrow point preforms. 8)
Did I mention that I'm having a blast. ;D
Otoe
-
Geez this is awesome! I wish I was that good at it all!
-
Otoe, I know the feeling about breaking the big one and not dropping it. I started a BIG blade at Pat's Camporamma and brought it home to finnish. I went out last week and found it in 3 pieces where the lab or cat climbed up on it. To give you an idea how big it was, Hillbilly named it the Paleo Lawnmower blade.
-
Nice looking points really kind of cool up here you see a lot George town ,flint ,obsidian points its cool to see those corral points with different color, just getting started in that bought me a rock saw
-
You mean this one? ;D
-
Didn't they use those to kill taradactyls :D.
-
Uuh Yep, I should have sipped some more Crown and broke it in N.C. ;D I'll take a picture tomorrow what it looks like now.
-
It probably wouldn't have fit on top of all that Wild Turkey. ;D
-
OOP's forgot about that.
-
I remembered it when I woke up the next morning and heard that cat stomping across the grass on the other side of the hill. ;D
-
Yikes. :o :o :D :D. Mine was nothing like that. Lawn mower nothing, that's for the Paleo Grim Reaper.
Sorry for your loss, but hey, three really big points might come of it. ;)
Otoe.
-
Eddie,
NICE!! :o Can you get the name of the colorfull stuff???
-
Brian, if you're talking about the stuff in this pic, the red/yellow/black rock looks like Horse Creek Chert from Tennessee. Great stuff.

-
Brian, Hillbilly nailed it. I found the card with the guy's name on it last nite.
-
that is drop dead gorgeous.never heard of it.road trip maybe?
-
Gorgeous is right Tom! Love the looks of those! When you leaving?
Hey Eddie, that stuff hard to knapp? For you I mean >:D!-ART B
-
Where do you buy it?
-
Those are the pretiest points i have ever seen i love those
-
From what I've heard, it only comes from one little area on the TN-Mississippi border. I bought some from a guy at the Clinch River knap-in last year. I had a bunch of it in a plastic bag in the yard, and the neighbor's big goofy damn Irish setter carried it off and I never did find it. >:( I got to make one point out of the whole batch. :'(
-
Looking at it, it seemed like it would be pretty tough. It was kind of grainy. The guy that chipped them is named Brad Harrison in Savannah, Tenn. His phone is 731-926-0642. From what the guy who had all the points said, this is the only material this guy knaps.
-
It chips pretty good, about like Burlington or other coarse-grained chert.
-
Hi Eddie,
As you know by now I'm new to this. I s that James Haislop I see in one of these pics? He's been kind enough to let me shoot with him during the week.
Bryan
-
Looked like you guys had a good time Eddie.
-
Dang, is that from last year, or recently? If so, I wish I would have known that was going on, I would have gone up to it! Do you know where Claude is living now? An Address? When I get back out to Montana next month, I would like to mail him some of the clay at my place, and see what he thinks of it. How is he doing? Was Roger there? I thought I saw him in one of the pictures, of the ZZ top gang. When is Pappy coming down for the gator shoot?
Wayne
-
Cant believe I missed this >:( (next year)
-
Yeah it is a good time. You'll have to make it next year for sure. Then I get to meet you in person as well
-
AWESOME pics Mullet! Bet that was a blast. I like the scorpion! dp
-
Eddie crazy colors!! I love the looks of that coral..awesome points!!!

This thread is from '08. It would be nice if folks would mention that its an old thread when they resurrect it ;). I'm not saying, just saying. Josh
-
My bad Gun Doc.
Won't happen again.
-
Its all good! No worries. Josh
-
I was kinda wondering when someone woulod figure that out. ;D ;D ;D ::)
-
Eddie,
Im new here as well as to making bows. Mistakes will happen. Many people have been very kind to me and have extended a right hand of fellowship. My apologies for bringing an old post to the front. I guess thats why my question wasn't answered. I probably would have missed it also. Next time I will send a PM. I am still wondering if that is a picture of James Haislop?
-
I don't know Jim Haislop, but it was nice looking at those points again.
-
SWEETTTTTTTTTTTTT
Makes me realize just how suckie I am after 20 years.
-
I don't know Jim Haislop, but it was nice looking at those points again.
Thats what I'm talking about Eddie. I am really learning alot by viewing all of someone's topics. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the work you have done on stone. Most of this is absolutely beautiful. I wish I had gotten interested in traditional and primitive archery when I was young.
Our daughter just gave birth to our first grandchild 7 days ago. It's a BOY! You can bet when he's 3 Ill have a 12 # bow in his hands.
