63" ntn, 48# at 28" bison-sinew backed black locust
light and fast
handle wrap is of braided kangaroo leather lacing
-
a few more pics and a closer shot of the handle wrap
-
Man , that is one good lookin stik. Cant say an off thing about it. Great work.
-
Nice bow! That handle wrap looks great.
-
Man that's nice. Did you braid the leather for the wrap? That's cool
-
Fine looking bow Richard. Are the tips the natural black locust? Love the way they blend together.
Can I ask what the bow weighs? I'm working on a similar design using black walnut/ deer sinew and with 3 light layers of sinew I'm just over 15 oz. and hope to come in with similar specs.
-
Outstanding! That's special. Jawge
-
that is beautiful!
-
very nice, thanks for sharing,, B
-
That looks like it would be a pleasure to shoot. (Your dog thinks it would be a pleasure to chew on the sinew!) The belly looks a bit heat-treated - am I seeing that right?
-
Very nicely done Richard, I bet that combo really puts some zing behind an arrow.
-
Gorgeous bow sir!! Love everything about it. Well there is one thing I truly don't like about it....im never gonna get to shoot! >:D
-
Congrats on a great looking bow. Bet she shoots smooth
-
thanks for the comments,
tips were steam bent but belly wasn't heat treated, its just the pattern of the grain. It was made from a large blk loc limb that fell in a windstorm.
yes the handle I braided using kangaroo leather lacing. I have a tutorial in here somewhere but this one turned out better than the tutorials finish product.
-
Fred,
yeah, the tips are just its natural grain no laminating....on the gram scale the bows at 558.6 grams ....about 19.6 oz.
-
Great job Richard, BL is some good stuff
-
Beautiful bow.
-
Very nice bow and cool handle. I bet that took quite a few feet of kangaroo lacing...and a lot of patience.
-
Beauty! Black locust is such wonderful wood when handled correctly and you show that perfectly with this bow.
-
Thank you Richard.
-
Beautiful bow, that doesn't resemble the BL we have around here. The color looks more like honey locust.
-
I love everything abut that bow. Thank you!
-
Very nice in all aspects. :)

Badger,
we have honey locust on the property here too, just haven't tried any yet...keeping a couple of those pokies trimmed of low branches for future staves.
Most of the Blk Locust we have here seem to be dying from the top down...just like most of our mulberry.
Pat B,
yeah, it took about 24 lengths of lacing approx 18" lengths and one brass hollow lacing needle
-
Beautiful bow, great workmanship. That laced handle is cool and unique.
-
Real pretty bow. Looks like it would shoot real smooth.
-
Great looking bow! Nice work.
-
Beautiful. Picture perfect tiller.
-
Great looking bow. The tiller looks perfect. Very nice job
