Title: Tanned pelts
Post by: ---GUTSHOT---> on May 11, 2016, 10:10:22 pm
I tanned these pelts just thought I would post them

Grey fox killed w/ my bow
2 Bobcats 1 trapped other killed w/ shotgun
Mink roadkill cased for a mini bow and arrows my daughter is making.
3 Riverotters cased and sending to Don Burchett
And excuse the crappy pic I just can't get a good pic to post

Very cool, something on my bucket list for sure. What are you using for the tanning solution? And how soft are they turning out?

I use Mckenzie pickling acid, tanning cream, and leather oil

The more you break the hides the softer they get the grey and bobcats are as soft and plyable as bed sheets out of a dryer. The otters and mink are semi soft they all will be used for quivers so you want them alittle stiffer

Pertty cool you got that grey with your bow. They are a pretty small target when you take the fur off them and scrappy buggers too

I've been eyeballing a big fox squirrel. As soon as season comes in I'm gonna get the dog out and harvest that sucker. I'm gonna try my skills at making a squirrel raw hide string. And some squirrel jerky
