That is a really cool horn. Did you get that idea from an original?

Yes I did. I have seen Spanish like this , but it is more French and the Matchlock era . I have a 1680s musket to finish.
A William III musket.  A .775 cal  or 10 gauge.

I like it a lot, may try to make one like that. Is that a copper tube for pouring the powder ?

Yes it is. I need to make a plug for it. Maybe dogwood.

Nice job Dog soldering and all......Any steam shaping done to this one?The pouring end looks flatter right?Suppose that's the design factor. What are the dimensions?Have you delved into skrimshawing a time or two?You got a really nice white background for it on this one.

Thanks. I wish I would of had a good mandrel to form spout. I used a rock hammer and a drift punch from when I was
still able to work full time. Pouring end is flat and I let the horn determine shape. It is 6 1/2 " tall and 3" base and 2 1/2 top.
I have tried some scrim, but hurts my hands too much. I have another in the works. Going to make a bait horn too.
Maybe even a tinder horn.

Do these powderhorns have a built in measuring system of some sort? I remember Davy Crockett tipping the horn up and I've always wondered how he controlled how much powder was going into the gun.

NEVER load straight out of a horn of any kind. You would pour into a measure of some kind. Then down . Not a very safe thing to do
otherwise.
