Title: I got my trade bow! Scalloped Elm Bow 47#@26"
Post by: Weylin on July 11, 2016, 07:22:24 pm
After I pounced on the poor unsuspecting postman and ripped off the packing material I found this beautiful masterpiece from Greg (Badly Bent). I've been drooling over his work for some time now and I'm very stoked to own one of his lovely bows. Let me tell you, there's nothing badly bent about this bow. It is made of elm and has a scalloped design on the sides. The tips are overlaid with rawhide and the handle wrap is soft leather with deer fur trim. It's around 47#@26 inches. It draws super smooth and I can't wait to rip some arrows through it. It's the perfect draw weight. I don't have a bow that shoots in that weight range right now and I've been wanting one. Thanks Greg, it's awesome and it will be cherished for years to come.

Oh man that's a beauty
How does one scallop it like that and prevent it from lifting splinters?

Just put in in the mail saturday Weylin, I can't believe it got to you that quick. I'm glad your liking it so far, hope it shoots good from the left side for you. To be honest I think you make it look better with your photography than I think it looks in person.  ;D
Glad I got your name in the draw, was fun making a midwest bow for PNW guy who's work I've always really admired.

Congrats Weylin.  That's a beauty.  Greg has a style all his own.  A Badly Bent bow stands out in a crowd.  I can't get over that stain job.  It looks great on a selfbow.  It gives it an aged look or something.  I'm going to have to try that on my next white wood.

Awesome bow - that stain is really something.  Greg certainly has a distinct style.  I know that the one I received from him is one of the most cherished bows on my rack.  Congrats to both parties.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.
Also my apologies to my friend Weylin. In my earlier response I made a typo and wrote the words "who's work I almost really admire." Don't know how the word "almost" got in there and can't believe I just noticed my error. I don't  know how to delete a typo once posted either. Anyway I want all to know it was neither a joke or an insult, just clumsy typing on my part. Weylin's bow work is among my favorites anywhere.

Saw Greg SLOWLY working on on this at some events this summer, turned out awesome. I'm stealing that little writing window idea for a bow dyed black, never really liked how white ink looks.

I took it out shooting yesterday and it is quick, smooth and quiet. It's as fun to shoot as it is to look at. This bow will not rest idle.
Thanks again Greg, for the great bow.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

Haha, I figured it was a typo. You don't strike me as the type of guy that would say that even if it was what you were thinking. Thanks for the kind words.  :)

I'm shooting the hell out of this bow, Greg. I love it. Its the first bow I grab off the rack when I'm heading out to shoot stumps or to the range. Thanks for sending me such a sweet bow.

Lovely bow.  A scalloped bow is definitely on my to do list, this post may have just bumped it up a few notches.  Thank you for the inspiration.

Made my day to see that your still shooting the bow and enjoying it Weylin. To be honest I was concerned it wouldn't hold up when I sent it out to you but the deadline was approaching and it was the best of the three attempts I had made on a bow for you. It took a lot of set during the shooting in and I was concerned that it would take more and lose some draw weight after you put it thru the paces. I was excited to draw your name in the trade and was hoping I could get something made that you would like. Thanks for the kind words my friend.

Greg was this one of Paul's Elm staves? That sure is a beautiful bow and sounds like Weylin is giving it a good workout.
