Thanks so much to all who attended; Bill, Greg and his son, Tracy and his son, and David.  I really appreciate you guys taking the time to drive to my house for some bow work.  Despite the heat and humidity we had a great time.  We did some shooting, some bow and arrow work, ate some good food, drank lots and lots of water, and tried out the forge until Greg ruined my blow dryer.  I was hoping more people could attend but this is a busy time of the year.  We decided to move next years gathering to early December.  It will be cooler and hopefully not as busy for everyone.  I was glad Tracy and Greg's sons came with them.  They are some fine young men.   You can tell they have been raised right.

I took a few pictures of the fun.  Hopefully Greg can post some more.

Every time I see Greg he brings me some sort of dead critters.  This time it was a couple of great looking snakes.

Bill brought me a dozen arrows for a trade.  I've admired Bill's arrows for a few years now and I decided I needed a set.  He does amazing work.

OH Well...................

But, these types of gatherings really pumps me up and gets the bow and arrow jucies flowing.  I'd been in a little dry spell as far as bow building, but today got me going again big time......
I started working on a buckthorn stave Greg aka Badly Bent, gifted me about two or three Classic's ago.  First time I've worked this wood.  It really gets my interests. Very hard wood, light in the hand and nice to work.  Knots don't seam to effect the woods ability to bend. And the salmon colored wood really stands out on the floor of an Osage shop. :).  Can't wait to work on it some more.
Again.... Thanks Clint for having us out and getting my "want to" back.....

That's one of those school archery team bows.  I had to try it out.  I think I'll stick with selfbows.

Thanks for posting those pictures Greg.  I'm glad you guys were able to make it.  And thanks for the skillet.  I bet I could fry an egg in it today without putting it on a stove.  It's hotter today than it was yesterday.

Due to the heat I didn't set up much of a bow range.  I put a row of targets in the back yard and we would line up to shoot them.  Me and Bill shot at the same time and our arrows collided in mid air.  One deflected down and one flew over the target like a wounded duck.  It was pretty cool.  I wish we had video of it.

Like a pig? I'm sure one of us could harvest a nice doe or skipper to experiment with. I like that idea!

Ozzy and I could help get things ready before since we are close.

Goat roast at outlaws !
Reminds me of the good ol days we would bye a goat and turn him loose on the back forty just so we had something to hunt for our gathering.
Just be prepared in case he wonders off the back forty cause you will get a butt chewing big time
"But sir I had no idea a goat would chew thru that rope we had him tied up with! "
Best not listen to my yarns could lead to troubles

I've had enough of goats to last me a while Guy.  I'd rather use a deer.

I talked to my Dad about next years gathering.  If there is a bigger crowd or it's to cold we can use his big garage.  It's the one we shot off of the deck on the first gathering.  We can run a large electric heater and there will be plenty of room.  I can set up targets around the yard and field.

David Hewitt, the friend of mine who stopped over for a while writes an outdoor article for the local paper.  This week he wrote about our little gathering.  I'll try to post it tomorrow.  It's pretty good.

Just noticed this post, man that looks like a great time and David wrote a really nice article. I'm thinking this could get big Osage, maybe bigger than you want. Like said before these small group gatherings are really great. I've been thinking of doing something small for starters maybe just the pa guys in the thumb. Of course everyone would be welcome. Great gathering Osage, thanks for sharing post and fun, it was almost like being there.
