Title: Another Gathering under the Ash Tree Shade… (Sept 9-11, 2016)
Post by: Onebowonder on August 02, 2016, 03:55:58 pm: We are planning a gathering to build bows under the Ash tree shade in my side yard. The Dates will be September 9th -11th, kinda… Our plan at this point is to:
1] Build bows Friday afternoon and evening,
2] Do a little couch camping, get up early to spend Saturday building bows again,
3] Followed by a bit more couch camping.
4] and then . . . getting up extra early to trek up to Three Trails Traditional Archery Fall Shoot on Sunday in Pleasant Hill, MO.
They call it their Hunting Season Warm-Up Shoot. The cost for the shoot is $15 each and all the details are available at the website for the Three Trails Club. (http://www.threetrailsarchery.com/events)
My home doesn’t really have much of a place for shooting our bows other than the little practice/test range in my backyard, so we thought we’d pair up with the Three Trails guys to get a shooting event into the gathering.
If you can make the gathering, but don’t feel up to doing the trek north for the shoot, that’s fine. Please come on and join us under the Ash trees. On the other hand, if you don’t feel like you can make it to the gathering, but would like to come shoot with us at Three Trails, we’d be proud to have you join us for that as well!
We’ll plan to have some smoked meats from the smoker barrel on Friday evening and Saturday. Bring your favorite beverages and whatever add-to-its you’d like to share for the meals. We’ll have to figure out some kind of way to stay hydrated and nourished up at the shoot in Pleasant Hill, MO.
As far as those that need a place to sleep over, my house has a couple spare bedrooms and a bunch of comfy couches that are normally empty, (as long as I behave well!). Patrick has a couple of the same that he’ll generally be happy to share as well, so please don’t rent a hotel/motel room unless you just want to support the local Springfield economy.

What could be better than ya getting lotsa last minute advice and a 3D shoot to do the fine tuning of your accuracy! We'll let you shoot from compound stakes!

Aaron, try changing your anchor point to a different spot. If that doesn't help just move over to Lawrence and I'm sure you'll be shooting left in no time... ;) ;D

I have a couple spares, but we always seem to need a couple more than we actually have. Also bring whatever hand tools you think you might need. We'll have several things to loan and share as well, but please bring your own if you can as well.

I found a good deal on Beef Brisket this week and need to know if I should buy one or two of the things. Let me know if you are likely to be attending. I'm not worried about having too much brisket, we always seem to find a good use for any brisket leftovers! I just don't want to not have enough! :o :o :o

I'd also like to let the guys up at Three Trails know approximately how many of us to expect from our group...

Eric they have more Osage than you can shake a stickbow at. It is literally what they use for firewood in that area.

Yep! My brother got me that one for a wedding present. I like it lots better than some pretty china or a monogrammed cheese board! PM me an e-mail address and I'll send you some pix of the thing. If you have access to Old Whiskey barrels, it would be pretty danged EASY to replicate. I love it and use it frequently. It has literally been a fire and forget tool for smoking meats. I use up lot's of bow wood and drum wood scraps in the thing! Mulberry has been my favorite so far.

If the forecasters are right, (A BIG IF around here!), we'll be prepared to accommodate as best we can. We'll have a couple pop-up tents and such, and I've made considerable progress on making the garage back into a functional work space. That is an EVER ON GOING battle for me, ...but right now the tide of war appears to favor some dry working area should the rains decide to actually join the party.

On the countdown to MoJAM 2017...I gotta get to some of the other gatherings; maybe this is the year.

I managed to land in the top 3 shooters on Sunday. I guess you could say I took second place. We had a shoot off for a beautiful custom arm guard. Wyatt is the young man on the left. He was the big winner! Several of us helped him make his first bow at MoJam this year.

Other than a bit of rain Friday evening, it was PERFECT weather. I truly enjoyed the event from start to stop. The BEER was cold and the Shine was strong. The bow building was fun, as per usual, and the company made the whole thing EXCELLENT!

Much thanx to Chris Rackley (aka BOWWOOD) for coming up with the idea to join the Three Trails 3D shoot event in to the end of the bow building gathering. It really made it great! He also cooked up a bunch of Great Northern beans with Ham and cornbread that will live in memory for their awesome flavor. ;D
