Anybody ever have a day like this. I quit after breaking 7. I did pull 3 good one's out that mess though.

Wow mullet, looks like that ole Monkey was on your back today :o If you zig zag that square edge on the slabs then abrade them lightly you will cut back on those cross snaps,, also watch how you support the slab, if you got pressure on each end of the slab and take a flake from center it's gonna snap........Keep a Chippin.

Eddie, I have those days frequently. If I break two or three I usually call it a day and wait til my mojo is working better. The ones you turned out look good, though.

Thanks Steve. I was pushing it. I really only have the weekend to work on the dozen. And turkey season started down south Saturday.

ed i have the same white knife in the basement. obsidian drives me nuts. i break the tips constantly. that why i like the texas concrete :D

I dropped and broke my obsidian preform before I even got started. :( I figure I can get two points out of the halves. The other stuff looks real good Eddie. I hope to someday get my stuff that thin.

Man, those are sharp Eddie - Litterally ;D. I would probably have given up after three broken, we all have days like that here and there. I'm like Hillbilly - put it down till my mojo heals up ;D ;D.

Still learning knappin'.....so yeah, I've had days like that.
Never bought preforms, though. They seem pretty delicate. Did you break 'em with pressure or percussion?

That looks pretty familiar.Even on the little stuff,I have gone to zig-zagging my edge,setting up platforms for the pressure flaking.I don't break near as much. That white blade looks very nice,what material is that? Frank

David W they are! As that French guy said about flint compared to obsidian "Flint is like a beautiful lady, Obsidian she is a Wh#$@!!!!" But you just need to learn how to treat both to get the best from both. I find flint Knapps better with percusions while obsidian is better pressure flaked. I can run a pressure flake on obsidian easily from one side to the other while I have trouble doing this with flint. Flakes are easier driven off by percusion with flint and its a bit more forgiving. Just keep playing with both and you will be an expert knapper in say....10 to 12 years! ;D

It's not Obsidean, but Dacite. I cut the slabs myself so I could get a dozen almost matched points. And I don't like to waste rock that I can't get for free. Frank, That white blade is old decoglass used as paneling on the sides of buildings around the turn of the century to the 20's. I've never seen it in the white till Jamie sent me some. I have it in green, tan and dark purple. It is very clean and knaps like Obsidean. After breaking that many points I went to something easy to finish the day.
