Title: Nice Get Together
Post by: mullet on November 20, 2016, 10:24:17 am
I got to meet Bill Davidson, (Orrum), his Lovely Susan, Carleena and Nathaniel Saturday when they dropped by for some chipping, bow talk and some good food. We had a good time hope they did too. Steve Parnel also came up from Naples and spent Friday night so we could get him some black powder for his new Hawkins kit gun and get hs James Parker BBE blank shooting.

Anybody that has a chance to take Bill up on his trade offers for the jewelry he makes should really do it. He makes some real nice pieces. I wish I had taken more pictures but I was running back an forth, I think Steve took some more. And maybe Bill will get a picture up of the Hawk head he made.

I'm usually good with taking pictures but I didn't this time.  It was a good visit.  I think that's about the only shop in Florida that sells black powder!  Was glad to find it and it'll be fun to get that rifle shooting.  Maybe even this Friday out on Adam's ranch in Felda.

Thanks again for the hospitality and generosity, Eddie.

Enjoyed meeting Bill and his family.  Nice folks.  A very generous guy and his jewelry work is very nice.

Hey thanks Steve!!!  It was a really fun filled day!!  The lil guy loved you and your hrlp. Thsnks for making his bow string. He shot it some the next morning, he can't really pull it yet but practice will teach him finger position!!!

The lil primitive archer has a Wonderstone tomahawk that he knapped. Seriously Eddie said we could knap any ty hinges laying around. He threw two pieces of it over to me to try, he said he couldn't get it to work. I beat one piece to death and got nothing but trash debitage! Nathaniel picked up the thine piece and wanted to hit it so I gave him a 1.25 inch copper billet and let him have at it. The chips flew and he learned to hit it close to the edge. I clubbed a piece off every now and then and it turned into a pretty fair hawk#!!  It has a stub that sticks out that would be perfect to seat into a handle!

I thought it looked familiar. That stuff is very hit or miss. Out of the 400 or so pounds I gathered, only about 50 has been workable, and I am terrible, so I can only get thick stuff. Some of it comes out of heat butter smooth, some like lava rock.
