Title: Purpleheart Rancher Knife
Post by: Zion on January 12, 2017, 07:36:36 pm
Hey yall, I recently got done with a knife for a ranch hand and thought I'd share. Blade is forged from an old leaf spring (5160 steel). Did a triple anneal/quench on it to compress the grain as much as I could with some good results, the blade is quite tough and hard. Handle is purpleheart with brass pins, fully tapered tang and slight distal taper with swedge. Forge marks on blade left by request.

Very nice work Zion. That looks like a very well made blade and handle that should be both practical and durable. That one should last more than one lifetime

Thanks guys, it means a lot! It is pretty cool to work with someone to create a custom tool specific to their taste...I guess it seems more like the way it would have been done in the past. I'll try to post more blades on here, I always forget to until they're sent off haha. Glad ya guys like it.

I like the style, and the handle turned out really nice,  I bet the hand fits around it like a hand in a glove.  :)

Thanks Chief, it could stick some pigs for sure and probably will haha  ;)

Thanks Bow101, the handle is very comfortable, I think that is one of the most important factors of a knife--otherwise it's not enjoyable to use, no matter how good the blade is!
