This shave horse took a few hours to make, and just uses a couple 2x6 boards.  Many like it have been made from recycled lumber.

I think that I have sets of plans for a few different types of stave horse.  If I can find them I will bring the to Chris's get together.

Del, how do you like the English style?  Is sliding the stave in and out troublesome at all?  I went with a dumbhead style, thinking it would be the easier option.  I can put the bow in while strung to do light scraping in the final tillering stages, though I have done the same while just holding the bow.

Just made a simple one that's mounted in a vice. Takes up very little room. Works great. Tried to upload pix, but couldn't get past verification. Didn't like something. If you haven't already made something, let me know.

I like that! Great idea. Did it take a little fiddling to get things in the right position? I'm also thinking I might have trouble keeping my balance on one leg.

A little trial and error. Don't really have to balance on one leg. It's made so that when  pushing on the bottom "pedal" to lock the jaws, your heel is on floor and the rest of the foot pushes on the pedal. Gives you a pretty secure stance.
