Title: " Sorry Peachie" lots of pictures
Post by: bjrogg on March 18, 2017, 08:56:32 pm
This bow started out as the second bow I was going to make my daughter in law. She had a FG recurve when she was a kid in 4-H. Now she is a 4-H leader.  When you ask her how she is doing she always says "just peachie". So we nicknamed her peachie. Unfortunately for her this one came in a very nice shooting 64 lbs@ my 25" draw. "Sorry Peachie" I gotta keep this one I'll make you another.
HHB 64" ntn western diamond backs I got from benefit auction at Marshall. Thanks Matt for donating them. 6 strands of d-97 my first bow with them and still looks scary thin to me. Love the way this one shoots seems really fast. It was from a very nice stave. Bloodwood tip overlays. Naked handle no shelf. I've been working on shooting left and right handed. I've kinda got to like no shelf.
Don't worry Peachie will get her bow that one will get posted soon. Thanks for looking

Now that's a stunner bj. I love the handle section and the way the fades just flow out into the limbs. The finish looks awesome to. Side profile says something like, "come on, just string me and let me show you what I can do"  (SH)

Thanks Ed, I keep trying to improve.
Thanks upstate this one feels so different. It just has so much early string tension but a super smooth draw.
Thanks helmet
Loon I think it was on a thread from wizard goat that he said he used six strands of d97. I padded loop wit two extra b57. This just seems ridiculous. I guess I was wrong wasn't Wizard can't remember where I read that. Sorry Wizardgoat

I know that's what it's rated for and it shows no sign of wear or any problems at all but I just gotta get used to that thin string. Need to narrow up my notchs in my arrows now.

Thanks so much everyone for looking and all the kind words.

Great looking rig, BJ, I don't blame you for keeping it. I've made a few that looked so good where there were I just had to stop tillering

Thanks Pearl that's just how this one was. It was just a really nice stave with just a little natural reflex out of the handle. She was a dream to tiller and held her shape real nice. She's just a little heavy but such a smooth draw that she feels good even with a couple extra lbs. I'm gonna have to bareshaft some arrows for her to get all I can from her. She's a little faster than anything else I have

Very nice bj, I like that one a lot.  Full draw looks spot on. Although brace height looks low.
Title: Re: " Sorry Peachie" lots of pictures
Post by: bjrogg on March 19, 2017, 09:27:07 am
Thanks Aaron, the brace does seem to look a little low. For some reason I don't get any wrist slap and it still has a lot of early string tension. I did put a couple more twists in the string after these pictures though. I think I might leave it a bit low though plan on hunting with this one so it'll be strung for long periods of time.

You don't get the wrist slap because you are now using better string. Try adjusting it to fine tune your shot placement as well.  Still a great bow though ;)

Your getting those HHB wood bows dialed in bjrogg!!!For the arrow nocks to fit better I just put a little more serving on the string where it nocks is all.

Thanks Ed I am kinda getting use to these HHB bows. The straight staves like this one are a lot less challenging, but then sometimes I'm up for a challenge and I love the way the wonky ones look.

Thanks Dbar, I think I might take this one back to the guy I know with the bow shop. Maybe shoot a couple though his chrono. I really don't care to much what stats. are I know they are plenty good enough for what I want to do with her.

That's a fine looking bow. I dont blame you for keeping it, some bows just want to be heavy.

I would not mind going six strands just for economy's sake, but I think the tab gives you an advantage of comfort my glove wouldnt. Maybe I'm wrong...might need to try it.

I think your probably right rps3. If I just try to shooting fingers with out tab string really digs its hard to hold or release. With tab it actually really releases nice with just fast flight no serving. I started out shooting finger glove but switched to tab. I kinda like tab now. When it gets real cold hunting I put tab over my cold weather hand gloves. Haven't shoot a deer like that yet but have practiced and it seems to work pretty good.

Sweet bow bj, nice work all around, d-97= less shock and no slap😆 if you double serve it you can go bare hand shooting if you want. You've been turning out some nicw work

Nice bow! Hickory? I don't think it was me who said they use 6 strands D97.
I'm on the opposite end, I use fast flight, and usually go 14 strands.
I've made very small strings, and I just never felt right about pulling back
a piano string.

Sorry Wizardgoat I was thinking it was you. I remember thinking that it had to be a typo but when I kept reading I could tell it wasn't. My old brain can't always remember who's who anymore didn't mean to put the wrong person down.

Dbar I was thinking the static tips first but then I thought you maybe meant the numbers. I'm not saying the numbers are worthless, but like you I don't get hung up on them. If I did I wouldn't have shoot my first buck with a bow shooting only 129 fps with a 596 grain arrow. If it hadn't been for Pearl I might have let that number talk me out of hunting with that bow. In the end I got a double lung pass through and a short blood trail. It's still all about my placement and good arrow flight in the end.

Bubby your a great guy and it's good to have someone on the west coast to pass out some of your God given ability. We all love trees I wish they could figure that out. It just breaks my heart seeing all these dead ash ones around here.

Thanks Josh, she is a very special daughter in law and not just because she's my only one. She is very involved with the kids. She is a terrific FFA Advisor too. She sure deserves a bow as good or better but way to heavy for her. I got one finished up for her. I'll try get some pictures and maybe her with a full draw if she's not to camera shy

Title: Re: " Sorry Peachie" lots of pictures
Post by: bjrogg on April 09, 2017, 12:23:39 pm
Thanks khperkins, I used wood stain and airbrush. I just very lightly airbrushed the stain on and blended it. I left it light enough to see the wood grain yet. As they say sometimes less is more.
